Those with depression are actually brilliant at hiding it, sometimes they are some of the happiest looking people you can come across.

That makes it worse for me. The fact that he was making tv appearances, smiling for the cameras, talking about the future and all the time he was slipping closer to this. Its a horrifying thought really.

I suffer from depression, so I can understand why he'd want to act normal so he doesn't get the pressure of people always asking him if he's ok and worrying people. It is sad though when someone resorts to suicide to get away from everything, especially someone as well respected as him.

It's possible it wasn't actually suicide, but asphyxiation without suicidal intent. Much like that guy... in thailand, that karate actor? This happens a lot more than you think. it's some masturbation kink people get on.

Cant believe they are playing at Swansea to be honest. I suppose they reckon he would want a match to go ahead. Shocker.

Hows Given going to be feeling?

McLeish said Given, Collins and Jenas were all really badly affected. Speed was so closely connected to so many people in football.

Can everyone just not comment on rumours about how he died please. Lets just wait for the facts to come out in due course once an Inquest has taken place if it is needed. Must be hard on the family as it is without people guessing and speculating.

You were a legend in every sense of the word, and a role model to all, you will be sorely missed. R.I.P. Gary Speed, another taken way before his time.

Newcastle Legend x

Got Jenas on the bench as well as the Welsh lads playing.
Rather a fitting tribute I think.

Can't even begin to imagine what Shay's going through out there though.

One of the darkest days in football.

I think, like alot of people on here, got abit emotional seeing Shay.

I hope there is a mark of respect of some sorts at SJP next weekend. For me, a minutes silence just isn't enough. A true gentlemen. Newcastle Legend

Shocking and very saddening news. Here today, gone tomorrow. Will be very interesting to hear what they find out from the investigations..

Nevertheless, cracking player and I'm sure a fantastic man too!

RIP Gary, thoughts are with your family. Legend <rose>

Quality footballer and more importantly seemed like a quality bloke. A true gent who always gave 100% on the field. RIP Gary.

If he was out of football and couldn't take it, it would be easier to understand. The fact he had the Wales job and was on Focus yesterday talking about the future, makes the whole thing unreal.

Makes you think he had a club job day in day out may have helped him. To proud to call for help obviously.

Still cant get over it. Never will.
