It'll be £20m each or we won't sell. I think we'll be trying to get the Greaves deal to be a club record one and I think that's completely fair. Philogene is better than KLP, and has a longer contract so he's going to cost more. I think he'll end up at Palace once Olise goes but I think there'll be a fair bit of interest in Europe too. Tella has done well at Leverkusen, so I could see Bundesliga clubs scouting more in the Championship.
# This is the key aspect. You had european clubs sniffing after the success of Tella and Gyokeres. There was already interest in Whittaker from Napoli. Its not unreasonable to ask for big money. Philogene you essentially have £15m price floor. Greaves is such a unicorn of a player he should be going for Bowen money
He does, 2 goals 4 assists this season, and 4 goals and 2 assists last season. He's so consistent and reliable too, the last 3 seasons he's missed a combined 5 games. He's probably the most PL ready defender to come out of the Championship since Webster went to Brighton.
As you say, that year was largely offset by KLP, and with a Greaves or Philogene sale, this year's accounts will be looking ok too. Meaning we still have reasonable head room to spend this summer so long as one of them goes. If both go then we're in a very healthy position. Putting them aside, Sinik, Ally, Oscar, Traore, Woods (hopefully), and a few others coming off the wage bill will be a big help, a Longman sale to Milwall should help, increased sponsorship from McVities should help, stadium attendances going up helps. It all helps, but yes, a sale of one of Greaves/Philogene is necessary. I also don't buy into the idea that PL clubs are skint just because January was quiet. That window was clearly restricted by a lot of uncertainty around FFP restrictions and punishments, but the summer is always a bit of a reset as it's a new financial year. Palace still spent about 20m on Wharton in January. West Ham, Palace, Brentford, Brighton, Spurs, Newcastle and a few others should all have a lot of money to spend one way or another and even if they aren't directly buying Greaves/Philogene, the flow on from them buying other players will still trickle down.
Buckingham in The Athletic reported the Carvalho deal as 500k - loan fee and wages inclusive. That's incredibly cheap in the scheme of things. We would have spent more on fee + wages on Allsop for the season for example.
I imagine Delap and Morton were also fairly inexpensive. We probably only covered wages for the pair.
Fee for Giles seemed to be about 2-300k as well from what I saw at the time. There's a lot of guesswork ahead of the accounts, but outside of Philogene and then Omur/Pandur in January, I don't think we really splashed the cash too much, and we did sell Ally and Tetteh and get a reasonable loan fee for Oscar in the window. Keeping in mind that the fees on Jaden/Omur/Pandur only hit our P&L for a percentage of the fee depending on how long their deals are. So yes we will have a reasonable operational loss this year (maybe in line with last year, who knows) but with outgoings and increased income in this coming year it should help to balance it out.
I think there's still a slim chance that if we don't get the money we want for Greaves, Acun may put his foot down or ask for some form of replacement in return as well as the fee, which would solve at least one headache. People saying we won't get £20m could be right, but I think Acun will want what he's worth - or what he thinks he's worth. Gone are the days we sell for peanuts and to be fair I doubt Jacob would throw all of his toys out the pram if we rejected some low bids. Although some of our deals haven't panned out, i don't think we've overpaid or undersold as of yet. Not sure if anyone has seen any potential fee numbers around?
We did this under Ehab and it's an absolute car crash. It was Stewart when we sold Liverpool Robertson and Kingsley when Swansea got Clucas. It only works if the buying club has a player we want regardless, otherwise, it's just buying players for the sake of it. There will be plenty of suitors for Greaves so we'll get a good fee
I think I’m in a minority, but I just feel that a lot of people are wearing black & amber tinted glasses when it comes to our players, mainly when it comes to Greaves. A couple of years ago, he couldn’t defend at a corner without grabbing the opponent & holding or throwing them over. Yes he’s a left footed CB who can also play LB, no doubt he’s improved by a mile when it comes to defending corners, but I still don’t think we’ll get huge money for him, at the best we’ll get Maguire money, 16-17 million IMO. If both him & Philogene go, then 30-40 million combined would be what I’d expect, obviously hope for more, but expect that. Also the problem with getting decent money for players, then gets selling clubs realising we have a bit of extra cash, so that 2 million player is now 3 million. It could be a case of undisclosed figures in the media for safety.
Which is why I'm sure we'll have deals lined up early in the window. Even if things are undisclosed in the media, agents still talk to each other.
And another SS... he doesnt seem to get injured... ever present when not banned.. And on your other post... I think Acun and Tan play hard ball with signings... JG will not leave on a song and the add ons will be significant..
