Is this based on anything other than wishful thinking that, depending on circumstances, Flynn would be with Saints next season?
Totally agree 100%, far too good for the championship…….if we go up, then we will have a chance of signing him….but fail? Then he will still playing in the premier league next season…….for someone else.
Can't see it being Burnley or SheffU. Ipswich is a good call. Still, maybe he’ll be playing PL with us?
Yeah if we go up I can see him being priority number 1 as I’m sure the manager knows his system is so reliant on him. West Ham paid £12m for him 2 years ago and he has 3 years left. I’d expect them to ask for at least what they paid as you would imagine they also know just how reliant we are on him. So yeah based on that I can’t see a scenario where we buy him if we are still in the Championship. Not sure on his salary at West Ham, I’d be surprised if it’s less than £50k a week based on his age/how much they paid for him, so if he ends up at another Champ team it will be a loan and the only clubs who could afford that sort of wage will be the relegated ones. In short if we go up we will sign him, if we don’t we won’t
If we go up then we potentially face one of those nightmare scenarios that I used to try and avoid on football manager - having so many key players on loan that when you get promoted you have to spend massive money just to have the same team as you did in the championship. Before even looking to improve it to premier league level. In this case it would be minimum 35m on Downes and THB. Then a goalkeeper. Would be a struggle
Depends what we get in from players currently OUT on loan. Could easily be a break even scenario on the players you mentioned. Caleta-car, Lyanco, Perraud, ABK, Alcaraz, Tall Paul. There's a fair bit in there potentially if we cant or dont want to convince them to return.
Some poster have said that we have agreed a fee for Flynn Downes on SW. He doesn't say anything else, so I assume that it's based on whether promotion is secured.
Don't think fee would be the issue. More likely wages and the whether he wants to play in the Champ for another season.
He was a class above against Leeds. Absolutely brilliant footballer. We need a second dominant midfield player - box to box - whether Downes signs or not. Absolutely first priority.
I assume you are talking about if we go up. We aren’t going to be spending around £30m on 2 players in the Championship As Greg said we probably are going to be spending £35m on just keeping 2 of our loanees at the club if we go up. We better hope SR are willing to spend similar to last season if we want to have a chance next year if we go up
According to google he is only on 25k a week which is way less than I thought he would be on. I think fee would be an issue if we didn’t go up. You very rarely see Champ teams spending £15m on a player. Wasn’t Charles the largest signing at £10m in the whole league last season? And that was by a team who had just come down and sold something like £150m+ worth of players
Just thought I’d check and the highest transfer fee ever paid by a Championship club was for Ruben Neves at £15.3m He is only 1 of 2 in players ever who cost more than £15m. Fatawu may become the third if you count that as he has an agreed fee as part of his loan.
That guy on SW isn't an ITK , he just peddles stuff he sees elsewhere without quoting them and passing it off as "ITK" ...
