I think there's probably a decent chance we could do a deal if we wanted to pursue it. Reckon it would be low - ish 7 figures with a hefty sell on though.
Much will depend on interest from other clubs. I can see Leicester looking at him as a long term replacement for Vardy. Morton would maybe cost £6m? Delap probably somewhere around the same and both with hefty clauses or a buy back inserted. Both are contracted for another two years, so it's difficult to assess.
They paid £4m for him, we'd have to at least double that for Boro to sell to a potential promotion rival. He'd probably see it as a sideways step too.
Topi Keskinen would be a decent signing, played well against Aberdeen in Europe earlier in the season, only 21 too. Has 6 goals and 4 assists in 22 games for HJK Helsinki this season.
There's a reason we got Connolly in the first place. And that's the same reason we won't be renewing him. Kid just needs to decide he wants to be a footballer. And focus on it.
That doesn't fit Leicester's MO for me. They're going up with financial issues and what they spend will be focussed on beating a points deduction to stay up, first and foremost. They're currently embargoed anyway. Future planning will come after.
Not really. He’s a more offensive midfielder who likes to get stuck in. He would be an okay, cheap replacement for Docherty and Morton but not as a defensive midfielder.
I think we need to start negotiating with Man City ASAP over Delap. Whilst he’s played this season for us, there’s numerous other teams who’ll be looking & considering making a move for him. Lower PL, relegated & promotion contenders will be looking at him. As for Morton, I think he’ll be a Liverpool player next season & possibly loaned out again, depending on the new manager.
I'm assuming talks have been underway for some time already? At least asking about options for next season etc. Surely...
We already won half the battle with Delap as he seems to love it here and part of a team he can continue to grow in so providing we can financially compete with rival clubs if there is other interest then we stand a chance
If Delap does go on loan again i doubt he would consider another club after the way this club also stood by him when we did not need to, he said himself it was a great gesture by the owners and LR.
Yep I think so. From what I understand we've at least tested the water to see whats possible regarding Delap. If there was no chance of keeping him for next season I think we may have handled his injury differently. “I have to give credit to Acun and Tan for making that decision. We felt it was the right thing to do, not just because it was Liam Delap, but he was fully engrossed and embedded in being a Hull City player. He cares so much and he still does now; he sees himself as a Hull City player. He doesn’t see himself as a loan player, he wants to be successful here and it’s very important that you show loyalty at the right time to the people who earn it.” Reading between the lines that tells me that we know its possible to do a deal for Delap to stay next season, whether thats another loan or we end up buying him.
