He took longer than that off after leaving us. Where does he go after that?

Clubs like Villa or Newcastle would be far more sensible for him, but I doubt they'd touch him after the mess of a season he's had.

You have to wonder if the lack of trophies at Spurs clouded his judgement, so he joined PSG to get one (even though he may as well have joined Dinamo Zagreb or FC Copenhagen at that point) and Chelsea to prove he can do it in the PL

...and in both cases surrender control of squad building, given the former had a DoF who wielded so much more power than the manager, and the latter a DoF who is also club owner
 
I think Poch proved to be a good man manager, creating a close family like structure with fans (I am talking about his time at Spurs) and the team. He's a very emotional guy the warmth that was created by him and by us as fans was an important part of what he did at Spurs. He was overwhelmed at reaching the CL final and then emotionally destroyed by the final.
On the other hand he seems to be responsible for some of the worst signings in Spurs history.

He needs a club to love and be loved by, you wouldn't pick PSG or Chelsea for those qualities would you.
Watching the Netflix series on Sunderland makes me think he'd be a good fit for the Mackems. Bring them up from the Championship and he'd get a statue alongside Bob Stokoe

I truly believe he held out after PSG for a Spurs return, when that became obvious it wasn’t going to happen for him he took what he presumably felt was the best possible job.

The time off after this stint won’t solely be down to holding out for a particular job but that the harsh truth will be his reputation will have taken a significant hit and he won’t get the type of offers he’d probably feel he warrants. But time away can eventually open up opportunities.

There is a feel of the class of 2012-13 about the current U21s.
The big difference is that some of them were already out on
loan during that season.
 
We are about to embark on the fixture week from hell. Goons, Chavs and Pool. I think the last time we played Arsenal and Chelsea in the same week, we had just lost an FA Cup semi final to Portsmouth and we beat them both with Bale scoring in both games (and Danny Rose scoring on his debut).

Unfortunately I cannot see us winning both games this time and if I am honest if you offered me 2 draws right now I would take that. I can't see either Chelsea or Liverpool playing as badly against us as they have this week and NLD is a just the NLD and whilst this give us chance they are a very good side.

The good thing is that all 3 will play to win and I expect three open games and that does give us a chance, because we will create chances, but we will also reciprocate and allow them chances too. Goals should be a guarantee in all 3, and whilst that is great for the neutral, it will be stressful for most of us...Enjoy!

About time there was a week of regular football for Spurs. This constant stop/start has amongst other things made it feel like a very long season.

Honestly I'd say that is revisionist history, given how our league form was slumping for months prior to the CL final

Personally I think Kyle Walker getting tapped up is what broke him, given his judgment in terms of both transfers and squad management certainly slipped after that, then he was publicly saying he wanted to be manager and not coach, and he became more insular on the training pitch

Yes it was, I don't think I suggested otherwise. My point is that the fight went from him when we lost the CL final. It may have had it's origins before the final but that was the catalyst IMO. He started to suggest it was not his fault and break ranks with the hierarchy. That was only going to end in one way.

The breaks were already showing a few months before, most obviously with how Steve Hitchen was alerting Poch to Youri Tielemans' availability and Poch brushed off the advice in a huff because he'd decided he wanted Ndombele and nobody else, somehow failing to see that he was potentially putting his head in a noose by doing so

That's hindsight and in the end the precise reason is probably not even known to Poch himself.

Considering that Dan KP reported on Poch turning down Tielemans (and Marco Ascensio) when alerted to their availability, it's likely that his stance that he wanted to sign the players he wanted and only those players did play a part in tipping the balance towards sacking him - not least because our form was declining rapidly with the players he wanted, and the club moved heaven and earth to get a couple of them across the line

Slot to Liverpool seems likely then, essentially a year after turning us down/ using us to get a better deal at Feyenoord.

Will be interesting to see him in the Prem though, I was very much on board with him prior to Ange becoming the frontrunner afterwards.

Hopefully he'll be Ten Hag II.
The transition from the Eredivisie to Premier League can be a tough one.
