Can the premier league hand out punishments to teams in the EFL?

It's irrelevant tbh, we won't make the play-offs.

It was more a point that we've just seen Forest sanctioned, Wigan posting their biggest ever losses, Leicester in trouble, Ipswich spending twice what they earn and may not even go up. Yet some people don't like the idea that KLD is trying to make the club 'sustainable' ...

... the opposite of which is 'unsustainable'.

Chelsea and Man City are two clubs that are being heavily scrutinised.

Was talking to a legal eagle today. Big football fan too. He said he thinks this whole sanctions regime could come down like a pack of cards around the EPL and EFL. He thinks it will need clubs to come together to fight the system, but thinks it could be on the horizon. By all accounts the EPL are flexing their muscles on behalf of their members in respect of the new regulator and their proposed powers. Clubs have the power, not the EPL or the EFL in my opion, watch this space I suppose.

Personally I think the punishments are way to weak and not a deterrent at all. If Forest were docked all prize money associated with premier league monies then it would be, but 4 points may or may not have a material impact. If there is no impact of the punishment, then it is not a punishment at all.

The whole sanction system has little credibility whilst Man City are left not dealt with. In my opinion there will be enough owners willing to risk sanctions when weighed against the potential rewards. Whilst I like our approach, I have a feeling we may be competing on an unlevel playing field for a few more seasons yet.

It's potential for a farce when there is a situation where people are regulating themselves. The de facto regulator,i.e. the FA,has been run so very badly for decades now and have allowed themselves to be sidelined completely by the EPL. It's a total mess.

But at the minute they are playing in the championship with a lot of the players who were purchased whilst breaking the rules in the Prem. In effect they will be rewarded with premier league money to help their financial situation whilst fielding a team at championship level purchased above and beyond what they could afford or would be able to afford.
They had the chance to sell Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for 40 million which would have brought them closer to the required figures but they refused to sell which has been given as an indicator that they will be given a points deduction upon their return to the PL, however a number of Championship clubs are said to be monitoring the situation closely as Leicester's results in the Championship may well have a bearing on the promotion and relegation places and if it is deemed that they have broken the rules there may well be more problems to come for the EFL for not monitoring the situation and acting accordingly on behalf of it's members.

The gap between the teams being relgated with parachute payments and the rest of the league is big enough, chuck in spending more than you are allowed while in the Premier league and you are going to be difficult for the rest to compete with!
