I dont know what to think any more. I don't think I understand football or the fandom of football. It seems baffling to me at this point. Maybe it's because I moved away. I don't know.

People who are dead against Warnock until the end of the season do realise that they're voting instead for Dodds, the guy who's just lost 6 games in a row and shows no signs of stopping his run.

Warnock or someone like him who has a rough idea of what to say to players to motivate them and who has the brains to watch 5 minutes of training and realise we should be playing Rusyn over Burstow is just what we need, until we can get the bloke we want at the end of the season.

I don't think its got anything to do with moving away. And I don't think its just football. I think people have just developed some strange attitudes over the last few years.

Fair point. I'd rather we got the permanent option in now though. Could be that they're not available now, of course.

I am with you. You don't often get ten or so games where you can assess with minimal pressure. This is a rare opportunity for the new man to come in and assess and instill fundamentals , ready for next year.

So would I but it seems unlikely to me, unless they happen to be out of work in which case get them in asap. If it's someone like Still there's no chance they'd ditch their team at this stage of the season to take over at Sunderland.

The best thing we can do it seems to me is get an experienced old head in for the rest of the season, lock Dodds in a shed somewhere and work on getting our number one target in for the end of the season.

Makes me wonder if Still is still (!) the main target.

News on the other thread suggests that's what they may be doing. With the exception of the locking Dodds in a shed bit.

There's no doubt we could get a manager in next week.

But, imo, it's better to take a little time to interview as many as possible. This it a very important next move and we could be looking at a 3/4 year contract, staff changes and a commitment to half a dozen signings. So, although I want action, I'm prepared to be a little patient, hope we beat QPR to take the pressure off and get the right man in who we can all get behind ... all but those who wouldn't get behind anyone of course.

I expect Still is the guy they really want, seems it was just the compensation fee that understandably torpedoed it.

I take it back about locking Dodds in a shed, not a good idea, too easy to escape from.

That's kind of the point mate, warnock just lost six in a row too.

What's the point changing someone who likely isn't cut out for the role for someone who is also probably no longer cut out for the role.

He's had a bad run no doubt but it doesn't erase the vast amount of experience he would bring. Dodds has no experience of how to handle this situation.

I'm not so much adamant about it being Warnock, although I think he'd do until the end of the season, as I'm adamant it shouldn't be Dodds and bringing in an experienced out of work manager on a short term basis is in my opinion the best thing we could realistically do to rescue the season.

I suspect they're waiting to see who becomes available. You never know who might get sacked between now and the end of the season, so best keeping options open rather than getting the pick of a limited pond.

I think whoever we get in should get like you say a 3/4 year contract and that we should stick with that person for that length of time no matter what happens

I understand that reasoning and I’d love nothing more than to have a manager for that long but but they got the last appointment so monumentally wrong I have very little confidence that the next appointment will be the right one.

I will say I’ll still get behind the manager and give them a chance whoever it is, I did that with Beale and wanted him to succeed but you could tell immediately he was the wrong fit.

TBF they got it right with Neil and Mowbray ...

... even Johnson had us 2nd when he left.

None of those three were particularly welcomed by the fans iirc.

Aye mate valid points, they were good appointments for where we were at the time. I think we need to step up though.

Fingers crossed they get it right.

I think we could improve but not hugely with our squad as it is. They need to get their heads banged together on how we learn from their balls ups with players and have a strategy to make our squad more competitive then we do as you say think through who it is. If they can present a better option than we’re giving coaches currently we might get the right coaches in.
