I think without knowing exactly the dynamics of the team selection meetings, it's very easy to assume the worst. It could be that the intention, at least, was that members of the 'team' were allowed to put across any suggestions that they had before the head coach made the decision. It doesn't necessarily mean that Speakman dictated what he thought and then the Head Coach refined it. I really don't think that dynamic would have worked with Mowbray so there's no reason to believe that Beale was made to work that way.

It's more likely that they'll have development plans for players and data around outputs, so Speakman and the data analysts advising when a player might need a rest or more minutes based on the data etc.

Absolutely no way he's telling the coach who to pick.

Kep hearing the rumours its Will Still at the end of the season, it sounds like the same scenario as Mvilla all those years ago, try and get him cheap and then end up not getting him

They did get him until he wanted to cancel the bosman deal.

Fair point and after a defeat orobly isn't the time for rational discussion on how it may work.

That's aimed at me more than you btw
My thinking was more that Speakman is the type of person that it's very easy to imagine he goes on like a dick but it's not always going to be true.

I really dont think it is mate. You can receive you reports from medical team, data team but the only people qualified to put a team on a pitch are highly qualified coaches. I havent come across coaches saying it is any kind of committee process.
He never said it was a committee process. He said it was a discussion with the head coach getting final say, which is exactly what you just described.

Also, yes it really really is common place.

Splitting hairs maybe mate. My experience is a day or two before the game the two main, sometimes 3, tuck themselves away and come up with the final plan and team. It is common for monthly meetings with a wider team to take place where folk put forward their views on where players are, including u23 lads. None of it though is focussed on I think this player might be X or Y, that is the coaches job. Tactics, formation, instructions, can only be from the core team.

Remember saying last year that it was a thing. Got laughted at. It is a thing and it's why lots of coaches have got the hump. It's also when certain players get shelved and then moved on. Certain players get highlighted. KS calls it the spotlight. They need to be given more gametime.

It's a load of **** and KS should have zero say on who plays games. Zero. But he has done for long periods of time.

Beyond ridiculous if true.

We are absolutely ****ed if it’s the case as no decent manager will come near us.

it sounds bonkers but then you see Mowbray not playing Pritchard and then immediately signing him once he’s left. Which makes it seem less bonkers

Did he not fancy putting himself on the touchline for the last 13 games when he peddled Beale?

If he fancies himself as a gaffer he can quite easily make it happen.

It’s almost like he’s playing real life football manager but like he thinks he’s unsackable. Can just sack the head coach and try again.

Mowbray hinted at it forever then eventually snapped and got fired. If someone like Mowbray cracks then there is no hope. Remember the Neil comments (,banging on his door (KS) can not bang on it any more). This was all in favour of signing players who had more experience.

Herr we are now. A year on, worse than ever, squad looks ****ing gash and full of boys not men.

That's why I don't understand why he's come out and said what he's said previously about it being a discussion. If he says nowt then he can just fire the head coach. But because he's said he is involved, then the eye of Mordor is on him and not just the coach. He's brought it on himself imo.

I think he’s arrogant enough to think he’s untouchable. I hope he’s proven wrong soon.

if you can’t tell, I’ve turned.

Someone explain why Dack has started nearly every game he's been available for when he's **** data wise and has younger players behind him?
Explain why O'Nien starts when he has younger, more expensive players behind him.
Explain why the most expensive summer signing has barely played.
Explain why Aouchiche barely players despite being data wise one of our best players.

If Speakman was picking the team he'd pick the players who cost the most money to prove they were good signings, not ****ing Dack.

Just to clarify here I do not care for Speakman, the last 18 months are poor, coaching situation this season specifically so i'm not defending him here, just don't like this conspiracy when it's extremely normal.

He shouldn't have any discussion. Zero. **** all. But his arrogance has got to new levels. Conferences, in the limelight more now.

Anyway, I hope he does go at the end of the season me. Whooper.

Yes I would agree that he thinks he's untouchable but if I was him I wouldn't **** around with billionaires who have their family lawyer on the board of directors. He's put some good structures in place at the academy and youth level that needed to be rebuilt.aybe that's where his strengths are.

Nope.

Sell on value my friend. That is his model. Dack and 09 have minimal. It's always the sell on value. Why do you think Jobe and Ba get so many minutes. The uplift potential. That's what it is all about.

Of course, it's not going to be literal all the time. It's 'suggestions' but even that for me, is crossing the line
