Against a team in the bottom 3 we should be coasting to wins against teams like QPR with something to spare But the curse of the Championship strikes again
If Twine isn’t fit enough to play, why have him on the bench, would be better to put a young lad on that we can use.
Apart from Max, who is usually my target for mistakes, the rest look like they could stay out there all day and still not show up on the score sheet. The passing is shocking and we are getting shown how to play the game by a team that have struggled all season. Mehmeti can't pass or win a ball and I fail to see what he offers but he wasn't alone today and the often seen Bristol City showed up today to achieve nothing but look disinterested and hopeless in all departments. Regrettably my banana skin prediction came true but I didn't need a dream to tell me that, but rather our history in these vital matches was our undoing. Wasting vital gains is buried deep inside our DNA and here we are again back on the wrong side of a difficult fence that we never seem to be capable of jumping. Dreams of getting somewhere with 3 easy points today were blown away after about 15 minutes when we just sat back and capitulated without offering any resistance to an average team that made us look second best all day.
On the bright side we’ve done pretty well overall in this block of games. Now we’ve got a bit of time to regroup and go again.
I watched the SOTON game with my wife the other morning and she even said “Southampton look terrible, city are making it look easy”. And at full time I said “problem is we’ll beat a team like this away, that haven’t lost since September and then go out and lose to a Preston or someone crap in the next game”. And here we are. My best mate is a QPR fan and has described them as a $h!t show this season and yet we’re somehow able to match essentially 3 premier league quality teams over 5 games fairly comfortably but can’t be league one fodder.
To be honest QPR should have won by at least 3-0.. we were that bad. After all the praise I gave LM after the Southampton game, imo today picked the wrong side and got his tactics completely wrong.. needs to learn from that if we are to get anything from the games ahead..
One of my biggest questions is how can we beat good teams in 2 successive matches and then fail to show up for a game against supposedly weak team that are struggling? It almost seems like our players can't find inspiration from great performances by entering the next home game with what was an apathetic approach when they should be fighting for the prize of a spot in the table just outside of the playoff places. Shameful dereliction of duty by all out there today except Max who kept the faint hope of a point alive whilst all of those around him couldn't punch their collective way out of a wet paper bag. What on earth does it take for Bristol City to win the kind of game on hand today because this major weakness in most areas is failing to deceive or achieve.
Against better sides we are able to play on the break, use the space the leave. Against lower teams we are unable to break them down.
It’s a reality check for those saying we are chasing a playoff place. We’re just not We seem to be a million miles off the pace and from every other Championship game and team I’ve seen this season there are many many better teams than us A couple of good results can’t hide our continued inability to beat the dregs of the division when it matters
Definitely not a promotion chasing club. You don’t go anywhere on the occasional £2 million signing and unwanted freebies from other clubs of lower stature, as well as letting go of all your youth talent the first time a team comes knocking. They will never change my mind even if we do somehow get promotion under them, because the Lansdowns are inept at running a football club. You watch Wrexham come and leap frog us the same way the likes of Luton have.
