Uli Hoeness has said that Leverkusen got lucky with their signings, which is why they're top. Nobody knew who Alex Grimaldo was, apparently. Guy played over 300 games for Benfica... I said we should've signed him on a free on here, FFS. What a ****ing clown.
West Ham 0 Arsenal 6.Proves it was an egg cup the Hackney Council team won! I hear they will be playing on the Hackney Marshes next season.......
I was surprised there weren't better teams interested in him because Grimaldo has been linked with a lot of top clubs for the last few years now. Always felt he'd get a huge move, but never seemed to materialise. That said, he's been incredible for Leverkusen. As a wing-back, he has as many goals as Osimhen this season and more assists than Bruno Fernandes. He's balanced both defensive and attacking duties well. Does make you wonder whether he'd be on the move in the next window, alongside the likes of Boniface, Frimpong, Wirtz and Tapsoba. I could be wrong, but you do get the feeling that Leverkusen's key talents may get picked off this Summer.
I think a lot depends on Alonso. If he leaves for Liverpool, then they could lose everyone. If he stays and wants to build something, then others could chose to be part of that. Grimaldo's very well suited to being a wingback, which is probably why he never got picked up. Barca also had a sell-on clause, which may have complicated things with Benfica. He's a bit more vulnerable at fullback and isn't the tallest or strongest. Still surprised that somebody like City didn't sign him, though.
They will, whatever happens in the Bundesliga title race. They’ve had exposure to the money clubs now. It doesn’t say much for the scouting at the richest clubs that they only seem to pick up on these players when their talent is staring them in the face.
The one thing that should help them is that there currently aren't many 'money clubs' left outside of the PL. Barca are broke, as is Serie A in it's entirety. PSG are pursuing a different path. Even Bayern haven't got as much cash as they used to - and that will get significantly worse if they don't win anything this season.
