I was listening to it on the radio, sounds like the plan from Sheffield United was to draw Villa on to them and counter.

Problem being you need a competent defence to do that.
Sounds familiar. You need a competent defence and/or some devastating options in attack to at least give the opposition second thoughts about just piling forward. Last season we had neither. Hence last place

Just had a quick look back at last season.

Sheff Utd have 10 points after 23 games. Burnley have 13 points after 23 games (including 3 against Sheff Utd).

We had 18 points after 23 games (and without the benefit of a Sheff Utd below us to take points from).

We were really bad last year. Which says so much about Sheff Utd and Burnley this year.

Such a shame that Burnley are being terrible. They deserve so much more :bandit:

JWP had a golden chance from a FK but hit the wall. Still yet to score a FK for West Ham I believe.

Must not have yet as the next one equals Beckham so will definitely have some noise made in the media about it

Feels like he's had more penalties rather than shooting range FKs this season.

Teams have known for a while that if they stopped giving Saints free kicks in the JWP zone, it would cut off an opportunity to score and we seemed to get fewer opportunities each season.
They have just carried that game plan forward to West Ham. I have watched quite a few of their games just to see him equal Beckham and he has had very few free kick chances.
I think JWP should be more concerned that he might lose another chance to go to a finals with England, not just because WHU are giving Phillips an opportunity to get some game time in, but also because it was reported that Southgate went to watch Jordan Henderson in his debut for Ajax.

Not the great start to Phillips' West Ham career so far. Still early days though.
