I notice that despite winning 14 out of 19 tests under Stokes (highest win percentage by a captain), we remain second from bottom in the World Test Championship. Mainly because we have been penalised for slow over rates. Penalties are ridiculously weighted, and just makes a mockery of the league.
It’s the equivalent of teams having points deducted for time wasting in football.

that's true, though only the last six of the games under stokes count in the current table, and england have won three, drawn one, and lost two. without the points deductions for the 2021-2023 version, we'd've finished 2nd instead of 4th. without the points deduction so far in the current one, we'd be top.

Root is really lacking confidence , think he’s caught between defend and attack - his head seems to have gone . I hope not
 
day 3 start with 2 wickets for anderson, but the 3rd wicket pair have added another 30+.

australia 93/5 in their test against the windies.
 
Eng chasing 399, you just don't know these days! Hartley in the wickets again, must be enjoying himself.

it is. i realised a bit later. i can only think that flashscore, which i use for score updates on my pc and my phone, had put the aus-windies game under tests by mistake initially, and when i went to look later it had disappeared when it should have been on day 2.
 
Ah spun out don’t know when to attack or defend - so they don’t defend into a better position , are the two Yorkies nearly done ? Or just in a lean spell ?

I think the sky will fall in before they drop Root but there'll be calls to replace Bairstow. Another Yorkie, Brook maybe?
