But there is always a chance the club the player is from has other plans that perhaps now do not include the player which opens the door for us, it happens so it is not to bad having a quality loan that maybe we could try to keep and is better if they are already here.

As for developing the player the clubs player is also helping us achieve what we want.

You have a choice. Fill up with permanents you can afford within budget and not compete with the recently relegated sides or have a core squad of permanents with the loans adding a bit of stardust in key areas.

Obviously it's a different proposition if you are coming down with parachutes, but clubs in our bracket have little choice if we want to be competitive until the finances change.

There's a lot of idealistic expectations on here which are just pie in the sky.

A loan is just a short term deal. If it makes sense to use them to get the most from our budget then so be it.

When you're trying to build a squad on set finances then it pretty much is.

I'd have taken this reply more seriously if you'd capped up every word.

Maybe GB's maths are better than his grammar, but I sincerely doubt it.

It's turning out to be another very good window, hats off to all concerned. If they can get this Omur and another winger over the line, we look set for a wonderful stab at the playoff's.

Pretty sure if we miss out on top 6 and don't get promoted there will be plenty telling us it's been dire.

(from the comfort of an armchair and with the benefit of hindsight obviously...)

Personally, I just hope we finish better than 14th.

No enforcer and a naive inexperienced, media trained gobshite of a manager. Never had a proper job before, Rooney's lackey, yadda yadda...

I mean who could realistically expect more?

    Seriously, no ambition... :emoticon-0105-wink:

To be fair, with where we are right now and the recruitment we're currently undertaking, regardless of pre-season expectations and the jibes you added in - above 14th is aiming considerably low. We've maintained a higher league standing blighted with injuries recently and with a drop off in form too. Even with the table being as tight as it is we'd have to consistently implode even with the new reinforcements to end up say 13th by season's end... If that happened at this point I can honestly say I'd be pretty disappointed.

I've consistently said 10th- 6th will be a good season of progress.

I don't believe we're gambling on going up this season **** or bust, as much as many seem to be starting to frame it that way.

I think 5-8th is the bracket I'd now expect us in. Anything lower would be a severe disappointment (obviously not 9th if we're one point off 8th or whatever, but broadly speaking).

Playoffs or a near miss is probably the expectation now, but I very much doubt we're dependent on promotion this season to make ends meet, or indeed panic and sack Rosey.

I'm not using hindsight at all, I've said the same for ages about loan players.

Nobody was saying how great the loan players were from last season when we wasted a fortune on the likes of Vale, Pelkas & Baxter.

The odd loan is okay but we'll be entering the summer having to replace our best midfielder and likely 3/4 of our attacking quartet and that's no recipe for success. Because at some point you'll sign more duds than gems on loan and we'll end up having a really difficult season.

There's a lot of merit in the Sunderland approach, they've only got 1 loanee but a shed load of really good young talent. They've probably gone too young and lack experience but they're still in and around the top 6

You're using hindsight to say Twine's not very good.

We wasted a bigger fortune on Sinik and Ally by signing them to big contracts.

3/4 of our attacking quartet may well be going but one of those - Philogene - is here on a permanent and just as likely to go. Why at some point will you sign more duds than gems? That seems a strange assumption when you just compared to how poor our last summer was in comparison to this.

Sunderland are about to sign Diallo on loan for a second season running and have struggled to improve on last season without him. Merit?

You very much doubt all that do you? As opposed to all these Hull City fans you think are just itching for the manager to land us 7th and get sacked as a result, while we go bankrupt because we flew too close to the sun?

The owners appreciate Rosey's influence in getting these faces through the door, and that's going to give him a lot of money in the bank, hence the recently signed new contract. I think that some need to suck it up that he may be here for a while.

Sunderland only having one loan is more about them not getting the loans they wanted, one of which they’re desperately still working on, They had four loans last season and five the season before, they don’t have a no loan approach.
