We have a 30 man squad in the Championship, injuries are part and parcel, as well as the very reasoning behind having a squad, whether they're good enough or not does not change that fact they've got a contract and expectations of minutes. You're thinking emotionally not practically, how many of Rotherham's squad are good enough? Tough ****, you've got who you've got.
Good post. You’re bang on. We’re desperate for a bit of quality in. Some experience wouldn’t go amiss either.
So, you'll be happy if we have this same squad on 1st Feb? Hume at LB, Seelt RB. Pritchard RW until Roberts is back? No cover for central midfield?
Without the injuries I would have settled for CF/CDM as our only additions, but the injuries to Huggins, Cirkin and Alese have highlighted a weakness at FB and it surely only a matter of time before Hume breaks down. Roberts' injury also highlights a lack of cover on the wings. In an ideal world we bring in LB/CDM/RW/CF but I can't see us bringing in more than 2. Probably loans
Dearie me. This isn't about "I want". This is about what the squad needs in order to compete. If you think losing 3 left backs to injury doesn't necessitate a replacement then good luck to you. You're wrong, but you have the right to be wrong
Bennette clearly isn't good enough - 3 Head Coaches have refused to get him on the pitch. Ba is the best option, but again he doesn't seem trusted Like I said ideal world we bring in 4 players.
It's not about right and wrong, this is not a moral issue. It's about living in reality or living in Championship Manager. The club have budgets, not just financial but pitch minutes, they're trying to distribute them to maintain a semblance of balance within the squad. You can't justify a 35 man squad in the Championship unless you're absolutely dusting the league with 100 points.
Bob me owld flower if fans get what they deserve, that wouldn’t be **** all. If Speakman gets what he deserves it will probably be a big fat ****ing bonus, but should be **** arl.
I think it’s a funny time for Bennette to go but say Roberts is back in 10 days and Clarke stays, we’re then onto him having no match time. A good loan and he’s worth more to us, playing or sold.
Well I hope this fella gives them a chance of some decent minutes so we can see for ourselves, hopefully get at least a couple through the door especially CDM and left back, you know when this fella took the job do you think he asked the plan for the window or did he just take the job blind
Not sure who that’s a reply to but I presume you mean we won’t sign players cos we’re not willing to spend?
You can bring in players you need without upsetting the balance. We have 3 injured LBs with only one of them likely to play again this season. Even then, he's so injury prone you imagine he'd break down again. What's wrong with bringing in a LB on loan? If Patterson and Bishop got season-ending injuries would you just say "**** it, we should play Seelt in goal?" No, of course you wouldn't. The January transfer window is about finding solutions to the gaps in the squad and best preparing yourself for the run-in. It's incredibly naive to think we should just "use the squad" when a) there are obvious holes and b) the transfer window is open No-one is talking about a 35 man squad. We have a 29 man squad (if you include Rigg) and only 22-23 of them are likely to be available this season. It's absolutely correct and pragmatic to look to enhance those numbers, even on a short-term basis for the betterment of the team.
I think it’s unlikely we bring in another specialist left back otherwise it would stunt Cirkin and Aleses development even more than already is considering injuries. So best we can hope for there is a player who can cover left back better than anyone else in the squad, which I think Styles ticks that box. He’s also better than our current third choice centre midfielder so ticks more than one box for me. Ideally we’d definitely get an experienced holding midfielder if one can be found. Not personally convinced M’Villa is the answer. Personally I’d want another winger as not convinced Bennette is ready (nor seem the club). Obviously would like a new first choice number 9. But think that needs one of our strikers out on loan. I’m still optimistic it will happen. People are understandably worried but I do genuinely think that come deadline we will have loaned out a striker and Bennette, probably Matete as well, and brought in a striker and perhaps Styles. I’m not as confident on the winger or additional centre mid tho. But I have hope.
Yeah, ideally. But in reality 3 Head Coaches haven't so you'd assume there's a reason for that. FWIW I'd like to see Bennette given more chances
What about a LB on loan from a PL team? Forest must have a few spare ones knocking about with their 65 man squad
That could work. But I think the club see Styles as covering that position. He’s played left back regularly in the championship a few years back.
