Phillips will want to go somewhere he'll actually play, especially with the Euros coming up. Here he'd be behind Bentancur and Sarr but probably ahead of Skipp and Hojbjerg.

Might not be the craziest idea in the world as it happens. If we can get an option to buy inserted and Ange can get him back to his Leeds form, I'd say it's well worth a flutter at £6m. HG too so an instant upgrade on Skipp without losing that benefit.
See if any pundits talk about him being in the prime of his career so needs to be playing

...it's so weird how people think Phillips is 23-4 when he turned 28 last month

Alasdair Gold claims we're looking at two more signings, specifically a No8 as well as a signing along the lines of Sarr or Udogie where we sign them now and loan them back for the remainder of the season, with Arthur Vermeeren the most likely candidate given his name was bubbling up just before the window opened

Hard to think of a decent number 8 that's gettable at the moment.

Gallagher is a hard no for me, especially at a rumoured £45m+. Maybe raiding Celtic wouldn't be a bad idea? Hatate was the one player in the summer I said I felt could cut it in the Prem and obviously knows Ange-ball but he's had a few injuries this season. O'Riley doesn't look too shabby either, having a great season so far even if it is in a pub league.

As for the buy and loan deal, Vermeeren does seem a talent but I'd quite like Wharton.

Add to that we seem to be getting linked to 6/8 hybrids like Vermeeren and Wharton, and the closest to a straight 8 I can think of (other than Gallagher, anyway) is Hackney - and Boro won't be letting him go until the summer

...and right on cue the Daily Culture Wars says we were scouting Morgan Gibbs-White yesterday

There’s been loose whispers about Gibbs-White for a while and I do think he looks a decent enough player but Forest paid £40m for him so no idea what it’d take to sign him.

Though having said that, after Johnson’s start to life at Spurs and Spence’s impact (or lack of, despite technically joining from Boro) I think I’d rather lay off from shopping at Forest at the moment. Not exactly having the same effect as shopping in Serie A.

Gavea News (who?) claim we're planning a £30m bid for Joao Gomes

That would be the Joao Gomes who Wolves signed a year ago
The same Joao Gomes who is contracted until 2027
The same Joao Gomes who is a regular starter for him

Unless there's an FFP bombshell waiting to detonate underneath Wolves, no way are we getting him for that price

Been watching South Korea vs Bahrain.

Lee Kang-In really does look a baller. Been running the show for large periods, shame PSG got in when they did, he could’ve been a very good Ange-ball player.

Their captain, Son Heung-Min, however looks crap. He’s missed two sitters and just been booked for diving. Stay clear!

Ally Gold says we’ve got an interest in Jonathan Rowe of Norwich. No bid or enquiry yet though.

Fab says Brentford are closing in on Reguilon on loan. Several sides interested too. No mention of any buy options though.

There’s rumours elsewhere saying that we’re looking for offers for Gil and Sessegnon (Reguilon was included too). No chance we’ll be able to sell Sessegnon, a loan is probably best we can hope for.

A quiet January window (apart from us) from various sources the suggestion is that clubs are worried about FFP. Spurs financial tight ship puts us in a better position. Thanks to Levy.

Charlie Eccleshare says we're likely recalling Japhet Tanganga this month with an eye on loaning him to either a Premier League, Championship or Serie A team

No word on whether we're also paying for him to take a taxi to training every day at the new club

Meanwhile...

We’ve recalled Devine and according to Lilywhite Rose he’s being sent to Plymouth.

Joins Phillips there and as Hudd pointed out to me when Phillips went, their new manager has worked with Phillips - and Devine - at England youth so hopefully it’s a move that guarantees Devine starts and minutes (it better, otherwise taken him out of Port Vale will have been a bad move). Phillips was MOTM on his debut over the weekend too, so potentially a good omen.

A separate funny one:

Phil Hay says Leeds are keeping an eye on Ben Davies for a loan before Deadline Day.

Aye, mate, we’re gonna allow our most trusted backup defender to head out on loan during a season where we’ve picking up injuries like a game of PacMan.

A tweet from a Port Vale fan on Devine:

Genuinely gutted about this one, he’s one of the best loan players we’ve had for some time. Can only assume he’ll be loaned out to a Championship team potentially, go all the way to the top Alfie.
