Think it gives our youngsters and fringe players, of which we have a fair few knocking on the door, another good chance for gaining experience, match fitness, etc. I'd rather we win obvs but ATM I'd say a draw brings more benefit than losing. Same reasoning behind being disappointed in going out in first round of league cup (well that and the utter **** show performance!!)
If I asked you the same question, someone could ask me...and so on and so on...and we could then be trapped in an eternal loop of do you really need to ask that question?
Fourth round. Hull City or Birmingham vs. Liverpool. You really think Acun will let Rosie put out a team to face Birmingham that includes Harry Vaughn, Docherty or Andy Smith?
Thought that was a poor game and we got away with it. Watched on dodgy stick. Commentator had it right - for all the possession we created very little in terms of clear cut chances. Even the one we scored should have been held by their keeper but fair play to Jacob for gambling. I rate(d) Lokilo but when he's the only out and out winger he just doesn't seem to get it right at the final hurdle every time. He seems better with better players around him but you could say that about anyone. Same for Allahyar - all the attributes, wrong decision or no end product time and time again. Vaughan too to a lesser extent - he had good moments and some where it highlighted his diminutive stature. Sharp brought us something different to that game. Already justifies why he was brought in. Thought Alsopp showed why he starts ahead of Ingram too but yet more shots he probably could have held yet didn't. That long ball to Connolly was immense though. Smith looked good, Macca looked fairly off it. Slater and Doc were both up and down.
Mixed bag of performances. Liked Vaughan in the middle, I think his long term best position might be 10 or false 9, he finds space and can take the ball in heavy traffic. Needs to build his strength and get some regular football first, not ready for starting for us. Connolly was very poor today, missed good chances, hung onto the ball when he needed to release early. To give him credit, he made our goal with a 'cross' which will probably win the award for worst assist of the season.
Thought Jacob did well defensively and going forward. Not convinced about Smith. Need to strengthen in all defensive positions if we want to challenge the play offs I think
Young kid came on touch was decent and he was strong in one challenge particularly - hopefully experience will help him
Awful? Where's that come from? Obviously it's all about opinions but I thought they looked pretty dangerous at times, especially with Dembele, good player that kid. If they were 'awful' then we were equal to them as we had bags of possession, did very little with it and scraped a draw late on (which we deserved for keeping at them)?
We were, by a mile! They had a few chances to get in our half, but despite our best efforts to get Allsop a touch every time we were on the edge of their box, we were still the better team!
Honestly, I thought they were really really poor. Aside from the first 10 minutes or so I really didn’t see anything from them that made me think they were going to score again. I think we’ve played better but I thought we got our reward for plugging away. Don’t think Birmingham could have complained if we won it.
