I don't understand how some people can say "if it gets us extra money then it's worth it". You know fine well we won't see that money. I'd rather have Nike than Sports Direct though.

I'm confident that the money from the deal would be reinvested into the club, otherwise what's the point in trying to get a sponsorship deal? Ashley may as well keep Sports Direct everywhere to boost his own back pocket.

didnt think of tht maybe the deal would come into effect as of next season...although that means going the rest of this season with the hideous name

I could live with it for the rest of the season though, knowing that it wouldn't be like that for much longer lol.

The idea that Mike Ashley would get a sponsorship deal on the stadium and then pocket the cash, sit back grinning like trollface and tap his finger tips together is ridiculous. Do people actually think that he would do this? Of course the club is going to see the money, it is not going to be spent on his pie delivery service nor will it go to Sports Direct.

Exactly, we might not see the full amount spent on players, but the money does remain with the club even if it is addressing the massive loan from Ashley. I'm not expecting a £10m player, but I wouldn't be surprised to see two players come in for around 6.

Woo, Sunday Supplement just said St James Park!

I think there's a bit too much trust in Ashley at the moment. There's no evidence to show where the AC 35mil went, in fact wasn't the net spend about 700k in that window?

Well I suppose we did get a new drainage whole in the training ground, they are about 35mil these days so I take it back.

So you think that Ashley regularly takes out large sums of money from the club and puts it into his own bank account?

If he wanted to boost his own back pocket, he'd just carry on using SJP as a bilboard to advertise his own company rather than look for a sponsorship deal.

I would never attempt to defend Ashley, but he never pledged to spend the Nolan or Enrique money on replacements.

I'd love Nike kits, as every single Puma kit in the world is just identical design with different colours. Ours and Spurs are frightening together.

Yep, I think you've hit the nail on the head. We're all just being played by MA
as he slowly but surely lumbers us permanently with his sh!te SD brand on
absolutely everything. That is his main objective, whatever spin is put on it.
They'll just turn around in a short while now saying there's no takers for the
rights so the SD brand will have to fill the gap for wont of something else.

Lol, that's not what I'm saying. If Ashley really wanted to get money for himself, he wouldn't be looking for a stadium sponsor.

Unfortunately, I can see the "we couldn't find a sponsor so we're sticking with Sports Direct" scenario happening.

Football sold its soul years ago and it won't be long before nearly every club has a brand name on its stadium. I'm not going to waste time and energy getting upset about something that is so inevitable, even though I don't like the change personally.

Regarding Nike I think that is about as good a name as we could hope for. Nike was the Greek goddess of Victory btw so that could be an auspicious name!

As for the money ... yes it will obviously benefit the club to increase its operating turnover by 10%. Anybody who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

To the fans the name won't change anyway and it will be up to us to make sure that our kids and the rest of the next generation understand the difference between the branded name of the stadium and the real one.

Did we clear up whether we'd most likely get Nike shirts with a Nike 'Swoosh' as a sponsor ot maybe a Nike shirt with another sponsor name across it?

I hate the idea if renaming SJP with a passion, but if we must, Nike is possibly the best result we could get!!

I can, and it will be on the shirts............

If it is going to be Nike, I'd imagine they will just make the just and we'll have a seperate sponsor across the shirts. Don't think I've seen Nike as the main sponsor on a shirt before.

Closest I can think of is Barca with no sponsor, but that's wishful thinking. Wigan had two JJB badges one year...
