Well obviously The People is a miserable tabloid but it would be good if this happened, get the Sports Direct **** out of the way asap.

Would all of the Sports Direct signs have to be removed from the stadium if someone does come in for the naming rights?

Unless they have some inexplicable desire to advertise a rival sportswear firm in a stadium named after themselves, I imagine so. It's honestly always seemed to me to be as though the Sports Direct adverts slapped all over the place were to show off marketing and advertising potential to a buyer or, as it turns out, stadium sponsor.

That's what they've used as the excuse for that. You have to wonder whether it has been that hard to find a company interested in that much advertising space at the prices MA/DL wanted, or whether it was just intended as next to free advertising.

Seems like a lot of effort just to show off advertising potential. Whatever happened to computer imaging? :p

Unfortunately, I cannot see anything more coming out of this than a permanent rebrand to the shabbytat chavvy Sh!teDirect brand as I don't trust MA's motives in this respect one iota. His sole purpose of living is to make money and his passion isn't NUFC but his naff clothing empire.

With a feeling of dread, I can see it now. Come the end of January just after the transfer window closes and everyone is quite chuffed about a couple of new signings as Ashley begrudgingly springs £8m, Lamearse will officially announce Sh!teDirect are the shirt and stadium sponsors for the coming 5 years in an £8m deal as "it's been very difficult to find any money being offered in these hard financial times... and anyhow, now that Mike's branding is all over Sh!teDirectArena, apparently for some reason other companies don't want to be remotely mentioned in the same breath. PLUS the negative reaction from the fans over this 'minor issue' has made the task of selling the naming rights so much more difficult etc etc..,"

Mind. With MA these days you couldn't make this sh!t up and this is probably a best case scenario; trust him to find the worse case scenario. :-(

Please be Nike. Purely based on the fact it is such an unoffensive name and logo compared to Sports Diect.

They're all massively boring, or ugly as ****...At least one thing you can say about Puma is that our previous 2 shirts is they've been a bit different and very different from each other!

If we get Nike we basically get Juve kits. I miss Adidas :( Shame Ashley doesn't get on with them...

Wasn't aware that they'd used any excuse or whatever. Of course he would use every chance he's got to spam his company name all over the place but it makes sense that if you're going to try attract as many companys as possible to purchasing your stadium rights that you would want them to see the huge possibilities for advertising that would be theirs if they went for it.

I disagree with the 2nd part of that sentence...Ashley did NOT need to plaster SD all over St James' Park. As someone has said earlier, do we not have computers anymore? The stuff our own fans have done with photoshop is ridiculous, I'm fairly sure he could've employed someone to CGI his ugly badges all over the place.

He's been given world wide recognition, a **** load of advertising both visually and in newspaper print and all for the paltry price of **** all!

There's only so much you can do with our kit anyway. Number of stripes on the shirt, width of the stripes, predominant colour etc.

But the first part of my sentence basically explains it. The man was obviously going to promote his own company, he even said when he bought the club that one of his primary aims was to use NUFC to promote his own company. I was originally just explaining that I thoroughly believe the SD adverts will be replaced with Nike or other Nike brand adverts if Nike were to buy the stadium, because those ads are where they are to boost the visibility of the brand that wants to advertise there. You just said yourself he has been given world wide recognition and a **** load of advertising because he has done that - and this is something Photoshop cannot prove.

Aye, perhaps I missed the main point you were making originally. I understand him wanting to advertise his own brand, and he's done that. But when they talk about Newcastle needing every penny they can get, I'll remember the fact that we've received nout from him for this debacle!

I guess it could be a whole lot worse after all; Puma may take the bite to fend off Nike but insist their logo is presented throughout SJP in its natural original presentation!

    Eeek, black cats everywhere...

I can't see Nike and Puma being involved at the same time. It just won't happen.

I don't understand how some people can say "if it gets us extra money then it's worth it". You know fine well we won't see that money. I'd rather have Nike than Sports Direct though.
