Selling the name doesnt bother me too much , it will always be SJP.

We have to move with the times,

£10M could mean we unearth another cabaye ant tiote

however will the sponsor money actually be invested back in the team ?! i doubt it

I'm disappointed with the renaming, but, on the topic of this actual thread, I think we could do a lot worse than Nike. Anything is a step up from S***** D*****.

It'll never be St James (officially) under Ashley again so I'd rather Nike than Sports Direct, we'll actually get some money and it isnt anywhere near as tacky.

If we got Nike then that would be the best out of a crap situation. It will always be St James' Park though.

Let's wait and see.

We will but its still wrong regardless. We're already in the hunt for the top 7 anyway, and supposedly one of the healthiest clubs in the league financially. We have top 6/7 income streams. It shouldn't have ever been considered, and tells you just far out of touch they are with football, and the vast majority of the supporters of this club. I'm surprised by the minority who quite happy for them to trample all over the club heritage if the money is right. Each to their own of course.

Nike arena, nike strip, sports direct on that strip. Think it's impossible that a sportswear manufacturer would advertise on another brands shirt. Nike strips would tie in with the Puma deal ending in the summer and I think Mike Ashley has an issue with Addidas and being a particularly grudgeful man a deal with thier biggest rival would make him smile. A deal with Nike would work well for Newcastle but more importantly for Sports Direct and I can see some shares changing hands between MA and Nike.

We'd still need a shirt sponsor as Nike would produce our kits. Was their anything in the Newcastle Brown Ale rumours?

Think Newcastle Brown Ale is just a rumour. They're no longer Newcastle based like they were in the 90's and, aside from the name of one beer have no connection with the city anymore. Sponsorship is generally a local firm aiming for a global audience or an international firm aiming for top market share. Brown Ale is now part of an immense international company (heineken) and as a small brand amongst hundreds of others so sadly I can't see them picking brown ale to plug unless they're planning a large scale programme highlighting all their beers around the world (such as john smiths at leeds and amstel in ajax) which would cost an absolute fortune.

Shame. It would still be nice to have Brown Ale back on the shirts though.

Football's turned into a way of advertising for companies, it's probably going to end up happening to most clubs. The Americans sponsor everything! So if they start to get into the sport more, i wouldn't be surprised to see substitutions etc being sponsored. Sad really, the love and passion that was once in football seems to be getting torn out by money.

hope we don't become like the french teams with tonnes of sponsors on them. Think it was monaco whos strip was just covered in sponsors. Was horrible

Is all this latest furore about the Stadiums name media led?

At least in theory the Stadium has already been renamed. It's supposed to have been renamed to Sports Direct .com@St James Park.

This is just another renaming.

The reason it is being renamed again is that no-one or at best only a small few called it by it's supposed new name.

So why should this new name be any different to the last new name. All those that count .i.e the fans will always call it St James Park.

For that reason I couldn't care less what FatCash does or doesn't do.
