The rules have been a joke for as long time. Not the same game I loved as a kid

I don't think the rules are jokes, it's the misapplication of the rules and the inconsistencies that are the jokes. Also the constant changing of certain aspects such as handball means we're never sure what the latest thinking is and it seems the referees can't remember either.

Just reading back and tbf I think what he's said mate is both Jones and Rashford should have been red but the Rashford one was more obvious. No, neither should of been red.

Jones was accidental, he bounced off the ball, rashford didn't know where the lad was just stuck his foot out to shield it, if the lad arrives a second later, rashford would have his foot on the ground.

What pisses me off is the moaning on hear, then the faux outrage that other clubs don't support our stance, then when the opportunity arises they do exactly the same.

I don't see how it can be anything but a red, no matter the intent. He stamped down on the other players ankle with his studs. It's clearly endangering the other player.

It's both. The rules have changed massively over the years. I do appreciate its about protecting the players, let's face it, some of the "football" a few decades ago was borderline assault! However, I think it's gone too far the other way now, silly little touches are fouls and yellow cards.

The referees are just plain ****. But then, with the way the rules are, and the dozens of cameras inspecting every aspect, they've got an impossible job to do too. Should still be better than they are though, especially given the technology they're failing to use.

It's both. The rules have changed massively over the years. I do appreciate its about protecting the players, let's face it, some of the "football" a few decades ago was borderline assault! However, I think it's gone too far the other way now, silly little touches are fouls and yellow cards.

The referees are just plain ****. But then, with the way the rules are, and the dozens of cameras inspecting every aspect, they've got an impossible job to do too. Should still be better than they are though, especially given the technology they're failing to use.

I've always said that while the standard of play/players has gone up, refereeing hasn't kept pace. It's a very well paid job now so performances should reflect that. Referees should be keeping fit and looking fit, not all are. It's a tough job and they will never get every decision right but less guesswork and more desire to improve, should be the aim.

Given I said ‘if you watch the whole incident’ in my original post then yes, clearly I have watched it. Like I said his foot isn’t near the ball. There was zero need for him to step that far across.

Like I said, if he steps next to the ball to shield it, absolutely fine. But the guy is going in to make a tackle and rashford sticks his foot an extra yard out into the the guys shin.

it’s an obvious red card so not sure what the fuss is about n

I'm not against the "asking for a yellow" yellow. It's not an intrinsic part of the game, it's just a mean-spirited bad habit some players have adopted, and if someone has so little self-control that they can't stop themselves then they deserve it.
Just don't do it, it can't be hard. It's not like in-game incidents which are often unintentional and sometimes just plain unfortunate.
For what it's worth, I thought the Rashford red could easily have gone either way, and that both pens were harsh.
But, like I've said before, we're not consistent with our views over contentious issues, so we shouldn't be surprised when refs aren't either.

Agree it's become petty, I was alluding to that in my post. I'd like to see petty fouls go without punishment more but then, I think of Mourinho or Pep teams where the players are instructed to break up play by making these petty fouls. They can't be allowed to do that so do we revert back to bookings for a collection of full regardless of the severity? Where do you draw the line?

It would be interesting if you could somehow gauge the severity of yellow cards. I'd imagine there is a vast difference between the first and second.

Yeah why I almost feel like need something else. Yellows for petty stuff. Orange for bad fouls. Refs for current reds.

So it's not tge contact, it's how far away he stepped?

So if he was 10cm away it would be OK but 11cm is to far.
