Nigel Pearson's 'barbed comments' as rival boss claims position under threat despite beating Coventry City Coventry City opposition verdict from CoventryLive as we tale a look at what Bristol boss Nigel Pearson said in his post-match comments Nigel Pearson claimed his job could be under threat after delivering a number of pointed remarks towards Bristol City’s hierarchy following his side’s narrow 1-0 victory over Coventry City. The Robins’ boss – who is second only to Sky Blues’ Mark Robins as the longest serving managers in the Championship – seemed to send a message on his part after he admitted the last two weeks over the international break have been an “irritation” for him with his position being placed under threat. A defiant Pearson wouldn’t go into specifics but with his contract expiring at the end of the season and no indication of the owner’s plan to extend it, Pearson indicated his job could be under threat with a poor result in midweek against Ipswich Town. “All I’m trying to do here, along with my staff and us as a whole football operation, is to make our football club more competitive and whether that means we’re a good footballing side, or it means we can scrap against people or, when the chips are down, as it has been for the last two weeks, that we can come out on top in a tight game,” Pearson said. “As far as I’m concerned it’s just a good afternoon for us to come away with three points. “I can say what I want today and there might be one or two barbed comments from me, and they are, but I’m not bothered because it becomes a situation in which I might be fighting for my job like everybody else is - whether the players are fighting for their place, I might be fighting for my job. I don’t really care what other people think. “My position’s not been secure, which irritates me,” Pearson added, when asked to expand on his words. “Why don’t you ask somebody above me, for once, see if you can find somebody who’s going to say anything. The last two weeks have been very irritating for me, I’m not exactly in the best situation but I’m fine, and I’ll get better and I’ll honour my contract so we’ll see where it goes.” https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/s.../coventry-city-bristol-nigel-pearson-27958982 When I read this sort of headline and article on another teams press comment I wonder what the hell is up with Steve Lansdown or his PR team, don't we as fans deserve to be made aware of our own managers situation straight from the horses mouth or couldn't he issue a press denial to kill off any rumours if untrue. We've all been down these tracks before, no need to send us to Coventry, pathetic.

If as the case is SL wont support Nigel Pearson who has done a very good job with money for players previously why would SL have any desire to give Nigel Pearson a new contract !!??
I think we all know SL likes a yes man, it’s been pointed out on here a million times. NP doesn’t appear to be a total yes man to SL. This creates the issue where, when results, performances and league positions do not improve that much, you run a fine line with pi$$ing your boss off, and lose his support. It seems this might be the case with NP, who knows, but SL usually supports managers he likes. He put up with Steve Cotterill’s arrogance as he was successful, As soon as he wasn’t, he was gone. NP, while nowhere near as arrogant as SC, imo, has also not been anywhere near as successful, albeit playing at a level higher than under the SC tenure.
you probably get your wish very soon and Nige will walk or be pushed. Then SL can get his yes man back in place. I’m off if this owner wants to get rid of the best manager since Dicks. Completely tells me why the club has been where it is since SL took the reigns.
If the Rowett rumours are true then that’s another step in the wrong direction for the club and will confirm Lansdown isn’t fit to own the club
Not my wish for NP to go at all, I have said many times I hope he stays, but I won’t hero worship him like you. I don’t agree he’s the best manager since Dicks, but different opinions on here are great, and promote healthy debate. I think NP has done an ok job, no more than that at present, but I do think we are pointed in the right(ish) direction. Yes he needs some money released to him. I know you won’t look through anything other than rose tints about NP, but do you ever consider for a second that SL doesn’t trust NP in the transfer market? Most of his signings are L1 & L2 players, even when by his own admission he has had more money to spend than he has. Maybe SL wants better signings for his money than that, and doesn’t think NP can do it. As I’ve said many times, who knows with SL!
I think that’s a bit dismissive tbh Angelic. He did a very good job at Millwall last season, they finished a lot higher than we did with a smaller squad and budget. We could do better, but we also could do a lot worse.
'Something I've got to deal with' - Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson opens up on health issues Nigel Pearson insists he'll continue to conduct his day-to-day responsibilities as manager, as he has done for the last six weeks 'Something I've got to deal with' - Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson opens up on health issues - Bristol Live (bristolpost.co.uk) Health issues?
Reading this, does anyone think that, perhaps NP is pushing to get released? His comments are very odd, and often seem inflammatory towards the City hierarchy.
Odd. Its those in charge who are odd. Nowhere to be seen. Nothing on Pearson contract. Pearson doesnt know himself. Pearsons no fool and chosen to go public. Hes not the Lansdowns man unless he changes his surname to summat beginning in J.
It makes him look bad going public though. If one of his players did this over a contract, he’d lose his $hite, and rightly so, so why is it ok for him to do it?
Repeats a lot of what we've already heard but explains it in a simpler and more informed fashion. "Irritates me..." - Nigel Pearson casts doubt over long-term Bristol City future Nigel Pearson has hinted about his own future despite Bristol City's home victory over Coventry on Saturday https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/pearson-highlights-potential-job-threat-despite-robins-victory/
You seem to be in the minority, a managers role is completely different to a player. The manager supports the players, likewise a manager needs support from above. The management team need to be pulling together, instead he constantly seems to be undermined by the owner, it’s nuts. It’s almost like they want him to fail, they did the same with Cotts. I don’t know why, maybe because SL is a control freak, and doesn’t like popular managers who question his methods. The fact is whenever we get a popular, we’ll liked man in charge who isn’t frightened to challenge how we go about things SL undermines them. There’s no point employing a man of NP’s nature and expecting to control him like LJ was controlled. You need to back him and see where it takes you. For gods sake SL stop being so controlling and back the man.
Yeah I know they had a decent season last year but he’s already been sacked by Millwall this season due to their poor start
Poor start, are you kidding me, they’re 2 points behind us for gods sake. That ‘poor start’ is better than we have managed in each of the last 2 seasons, and everyone on here is banging on about us having our best manager since Dicks. Jeez, give me strength….. The fact is, SL gives his managers a lot more time than most chairman in this division. At other clubs NP would have been sacked long ago, so SL may not be backing him with funding as much as NP would like, but he has backed him thus far as our manager, and given him time.
If you are privy to this contract regarding the Manager of BCFC tell the Manager of BCFC about it because he doesnt know. Maybe you can fill him in on targets and cash for strengthening the squad as well because the Lansdowns are not talking to him anymore!!!
Exactly, the manager should hold higher standards. Instead of whining to the press, have the minerals to stand up to, and give SL an ultimatum. I agree that what SL is doing is poor, but, for me, it’s between NP and SL. If NP is that unhappy, then lay it out to SL, not the press is all I’m saying. If he doesn’t confront SL on this, then he’s effectively another SL yes man.
