There are some clear separation of groups in the post I did above. Saints are clear out ****. Then there are nine sides 'fighting relagation'. The mid-table obscurities, the European hopefuls, the CL challengers and then the title race.

yeah, but the bottom half are still "the bottom half"

In ye olden days you could kick your way through a side even up to the 2000s. you had a half reasonable chance at getting a point off most sides at home.

The rules are now to the point where **** housing aside you can't kick players, you can really only time waste.

Most of the sides keep their pitches fairly pristine compared to even 10/15 years ago. Mud? I have not seen a muddy pitch in a long time outside the fa cup.

The interesting think is LFC are 2nd in the home table this season. (city are first) we are 7th on the away table

Used to love a good old muddy pitch game at the start (slide tackle lasts 15yrds) but by the second half it becomes ridiculously sticky (boots get stuck) <laugh>

Goal scored Goal conceded TOP FIVE ONLY

Manchester City 93 31 * Able to be consistent throughout the season
Arsenal 83 43 * Consistent until the final third of the season
Newcastle United 67 32 * Surprise of the season but they spent a lot of money
Manchester United 52 41 * Gradually improving and finished above Liverpool for the first time in many years
Liverpool 71 * 43 * Paid for not improving the squad last summer.
We have conceded the same numbers of goals as Arsenal and scored more goals than Newcastle and Manchester United.
Our failures are(1) Not turning losses into draw (2) Draws to wins (defence) too casual (Midfield) Not strong enough (forward) No scoring more goals.

yes, 8 games without a goal in the league, and only one of those was a loss by more than 1 goal. that on its own represented 20 points swing if we scored just 1 goal.

We must do far far better being strong defensively agaisnt the better sides but we simply must take chances more consistently. Hammering utd by scoring 7 form 8 chances or whatever is all well and good but 20 other points went a begging.

    1. Sub Darwin Nunez's 90 minute winner was the 42nd Liverpool have netted in the premier league- the most of any team in the Prem and and he was their first man to come off the bench to both equalise and net the winner.

2.NEWCASTLE lost in a premier league they scored first under Eddie Howe for the first time. Of the previous 22 times they had taken the lead at St James Park, the Magpies had won seventeen and drawn five

3.JURGEN KLOPP has beaten sides managed Eddie Howe 11 times in a row (six against Bournemouth -five against Newcastle}- the longest winning run by one manager over another in the premier league

Yet, when I referred to them as a lower half team before our opening game I was scoffed at on here. <laugh>

Well they still spent a lot of money on the expectation to be one and more.

it'll not be too long before we I'll have to decide where to put them.

Fifty-five different players have scored for the Reds during his tenure, with Mohamed Salah topping the goals list on 190.
In September 2023, Klopp became the Liverpool manager to reach 900 goals in the fewest number of games, doing so in 440 matches, 55 fewer than Bill Shankly.

Appointed on October 8, 2015, Klopp has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup – and is the only Liverpool manager to win six different major trophies.

Block 2 is done I called this the hardest block in the start

    upload_2023-10-9_8-5-7.png
You can see we've dropped off the title line and are flirting with 202/21 type of form. We now ned a good run of games.

    upload_2023-10-9_8-6-43.png
    upload_2023-10-9_8-6-58.png

Now for the slightly better news.

    bottom half
    Games played 2
    Goals scored 6
    Goal conceded 2
    Games won 2
    Games drawn 0
    Games lost 0
    Win ratio 100%
    Draw ratio 0%
    Loss ratio 0%
    Goals per game 3.00
    Goals conceded per game 1.00

    top half
    Games played 6
    Goals scored 12
    Goal conceded 8
    Games won 3
    Games drawn 2
    Games lost 1
    Win ratio 50%
    Draw ratio 33%
    Loss ratio 17%
    Goals per game 2.00
    Goals conceded per game 1.3

Block 3 is a 100% no excuses 12/12 points "or failure" block
    Everton (h)
    Nottingham Forest (h)
    Luton Town (a)
    Brentford (h)

We are due this run of game sup to the city game and really in the first 8 games there no issue with scoring goals. Its leaking thats the consistent theme and most of it is entirely self inflicted

Now a look at the super league scum. Up to 7 clubs now

    upload_2023-10-9_8-13-41.png

Spurs beat utd, got very lucky v arsenal and extremely lucky against us. So they are sitting pretty.

Chelsea have just played the 1 and and 11th which says it all. This table becomes more and more key to sorting the teams out by the end.

Again the consistent theme is we concede too many goals.

I have compared This seasons start to what our near perfect season was (2019/20)

Again, no issue with goals. The issue is with goals conceded and the results.

We scored first in 2019/20 and then the result was not in doubt.

this season our trend is concede first and fight for the result.

Table doesn’t really make much sense.
9 goals scored in week 1
12 goals scored in week 4?

Is there meant to be another axis on the right to show goals conceded/scored?

But then what is the axis on the left showing as it can’t be points as it’s not an accumulation?

these are block of 4 games each.

    Block 1 = 12 points gained in 19/20 v 10 in 23/24
Block 1 = 9 goals scored in both season in block 1 and 3 goals conceded in each season

    upload_2023-10-9_10-16-5.png

    here is a goals accumulation
    upload_2023-10-9_10-17-28.png

You can see we actually improved in 19/20 when we really were on a roll and the league win was on. Then the goals start to uptick after covid etc.

IMO this season goals won't be a huge issue but to progress we need to keep that going while stemming the leaks.
