Why do you think we do it?

    It's kind of cathartic.

As opposed to just generally aggressive? Like it's an improvement?

    I'm responding in kind

Looks like you've forgotten your own posts in the last 3h already.

Better set a second alarm for the morning mate.

I'll see you at St Andrews for that pint.

No one bickers like City fans, and Hull people in general, especially after a defeat. On the coach back from Norwich a middle aged woman and a lad in around his mid 20s were at it all the way back, four hours in total, over the lads playing music on the way there

The concerning thing about that performance was it looked like we had zero idea how to handle how aggressive their press was. The back four and Seri are so used to passing the ball around slowly in our own half without much pressure from the opposition so when they come against a team like Ipswich who were breathing down our necks for 90 minutes, they **** their keks and resorted to long ball and it just wasn’t sticking.

The downside of a high press is it leaves you open if the opposition play through it which is why Ipswich concede a lot of goals as well but we never laid a glove on them.

Not entirely sure I agree. Following Connolly's injury and up to HT we began to pass through them quite effectively and took control of the game, creating a few chances. They then hit us on the break just before HT, and our heads went down after that. Philogene was non-existent second half when everything good we did in the first half went through him.

    This is true.

On the night, against a side that's averaged something stupid like 3. 5 goals a game over the last 16 months.

    So I expected the onslaught.

My concern is that we didn't really lay a glove on them, as I've previously stated on this thread.

We move on. We've got 3 points away from the current top 2.

Back to the more usual grind at Millwall.

Missed the game sadly, but just seen the result.

Can someone summarise what it is we’re arguing about tonight?

    Cheers

In fairness, I won’t say we were unlucky not to score a few of our own, but I will say they were fortunate not to concede. We did have a few good opportunities of our own tonight.

It wasn’t a complete disaster like some of the stinkers we had under McCann.

I wish the LR knockers would knock it on the head...10 games in. We're doing okay. Setbacks are a feature of football and Gawd knows we're going to get some more in this league before the curtain comes down in May. Tarr....Wishing you a peaceful and stress free night.

It's crazy how pervasive some of these narratives are. You can casually assert that all we do is pass it around at the back under no pressure so we're not used to dealing with a team that presses us, and everyone accepts it because yep, that's the narrative. In reality we face players pressing us in every game. Loads of times against Plymouth only three days ago, and it's the same in most games. It's a huge part of our game. Totally daft to pretend otherwise.

Similarly, Rosenior is stubborn/arrogant/never changes anything. Tonight he explained exactly what he changed and admitted it didn't work, but it doesn't matter because the narrative trumps that. Because it was a change that us laymen didn't notice we'll just insist he didn't do anything because of his arrogance. And when he says we need to take our medicine we'll ignore that too because we need to be angry after a defeat so it's better to pretend he was delusional and arrogant about it.

We got dicked by a good team away from home in front of their sellout crowd under the lights. Let's face it, tonight wasn't going to be our night. We need to be administering the same level of dicking to other teams when we're on top and controlling games. Tonight was their equivalent of our recent home games against decent sides, except they put us to bed and they kept the clean sheet that their dominance deserved. When they had an early chance they buried it. We should've been two up inside 3 minutes against Plymouth but let them off and came to regret it. Our success this season, I think, will depend on whether we can achieve that level of clinicalness in both boxes. We'll be top 10 either way I'm sure, but finishing chances and keeping clean sheets when we dominate will be a big factor part in where within that we get.

I'm all for the passing game, but I just wish we'd speed it up and try to be more adventurous with those passes as opposed to being so casual about it. It seems like when we have the ball we struggle in two areas - playing at a higher tempo, because we're not used to it, and breaking a defence, because they're always back in position by the time we get to their box.

We'll need improved home form and to start picking up wins at home, but we've got a tough run of games out of the way and some (on paper) winnable ones coming up.

I'm not worried about tonight's result, but have slight concerns around the way we play and the mentality. I want to see a bit more bravery from the players.

Tonight Sinik looked bright! Good to see. There's some quality in this squad for certain. The downside - I've no idea why we're playing Coyle at left back. He had a go of it, but he's so right footed he looked really out of place on the left. Once Vinagre came on they didn't get another cross in down that side. He stopped them 4 times and he should be starting. Christie has gone from being one of our best last season to one of our worst this season. He seems slower, and really unsure of himself.

We keep having patches in games where it feels like we're in full control but we don't score during those periods. Like after their first goal today. It's due to the slow build up. On the plus side I still don't think we've gone into 5th gear yet so there's room for improvement. Kn to the next one.
