Arfa, what was your bands name/when were you about?

Used to be quite into my North-East bands while I was in school...

Was a particular fan of Tripdash n Protohero (more punk/rock than indy)

Saw 3 Foot Ninja a while back, my mates band (Black Water Fever) were playing at the same gig, supporting Wilko Johnson in Shildon. Though they were tight, but didn't really see what set them apart n justified them supporting so many big names...

Jesus - Was in a band called The New Lev Yashin, also in bands called My Favourite Co-Pilot and Stories and Comets. Mainly DIY stuff, punky/rocky stuff but the latter bands where more hardcorey than the other! That was a LONG time ago, well, about 8-9 year ago.

We supported Enter Shikari, Biffy Clyro, Hundred Reasons, Futureheads (BOO Mackems!) and that type of band, was good while it lasted! haha

I miss that **** in my life!

YES!! Did you see them in Rotherham in November? Amazing, been listening to nowt much but them since. The 15minute version of Yeah almost tore my head off, guts out and limbs off. Would love to go to their farewell (sniff) gig in April in New York.

Also, agree with the shouts for Everything Everything and Detroit Social Club. There's plenty of mint local bands out there not getting any exposure. Mind, there's also plenty of garbage...

    Anyway...too many to list but:

    Blur
    Super Furry Animals
    LCD Soundsystem
    Primal Scream
    David Bowie
    The Stone Roses
    Pulp
    The Smiths
    Spiritualized
    The Who
    Beck
    The Beatles
    Pink Floyd

Favourite song? 'Yes' by Mcalmont and Butler.

Best gig? Blur, O2 Academy 09, Super Furrys Newcastle Uni 03, Rage Against the Machine Leeds Festival 2000

    Good thread!

What's wrong with that? Anything before Hold Me Down is quite good.

I'm going on a limb and throwing it out there that Matt Bellamy is a genius when it comes to playing guitar/piano.

I'm going to disagree and say that Jonny Greenwood is more of a genius than Bellamy.

Actually looking back at your favourite bands I think our taste in indie is very similar. We've listed a few in common and most of your others i like. Out of interest what is your favourite Bunnymen album? Mine is Heaven Up Here, i must have played that album on vinyl five times a day for over six months when it first came out and at least once or twice a week ever since.

Ocean Rain for me, was played a lot when I was about 5-8 years old and has stuck with me, quite enjoy listening to that on a sunny day.

That's a class album too. The Killing Moon is my favourite song of all and i can't listen to Ocean Rain without getting goose bumps towards the end - great stuff!

Thing is i'm in my forties now. I grew up listening to Joy Division, Killing Joke, Sex Pistols, Echo, The Icicle Works, The Clash, Sham 69, The Skids etc and they were the bands that got me into music (along with ELO). But here i am thirty years later and they are still the bands i most want to listen to. I'd say it was my age but as you are 18 maybe it is just great music that passes the test of time.

When you have stuff like Dubstep considered good, you kind of realise how much better 70s/80s/early 90s music actually is. Not a fan of modern music at all haha.

Nor me generally. I see you are from Nuneaton. Might be before your time but did you ever catch or hear of a band from Coventry called Adorable, or their later incarnation Polak. They were good. Signed to Creative and were tipped to be as big as Oasis (when they were at their peak) but just didn't happen for them.

BTW you're not too far from Hinckley right? Got family there, it's my dad's hometown.
