Folk singer Roger Whittaker, famous for his 1969 hit song Durham Town and expert whistling, has died at the age of 87.

His other hits included The Last Farewell and New World in the Morning, and he sold nearly 50 million records around the world

RIP <rose>
RIP but ****ing hell I thought he was old in the 70s when he got TV time, assumed he’d died before the Internet……

Listened to this this morning, and yes I was in bits too

Adrian Edmonson, was so lovely on Desert Island Discs....not only about Rick Mayall, but also his last record...Wide Open Spaces by The (Dixie) Chicks for his family, as it reminds him of his girls singing in the car.

He seems the nicest person

Saw him with The Bad Shepherds once, he is a seriously accomplished musician too

That’s heartbreaking to listen to, and 10 years on.
Remember seeing Ade with the Bad Shepherds too Beth - on a tiny stage at the Larmer Tree - thoroughly enjoyable gig and very original take on some great songs. Nice guy on stage too.
