not at all. I think its basically that most of us understand the banter we receive is not a personall attack, does not imply anything other than the jovial back and forth which is part of football.

However I have no wish to argue on the subject. I think I show where I stand on the argument above so not really worth me continuing on the subject.

Lets get back to Saints and forget about all the media garbage on Poyet's pre match mind games and 'homophobic' chants and look forward to the football and yes the banter back and forth (hopefully for all's sake it will be you're not very good' met by them 'with 'neither are you' and then we can keep on repeating that back and forth followed by a 'touche moment :)

This is what I really hate about this country, just to PC, what with all the health and safety madness it makes you want to just get up and go somewhere that not so stuffy and dont take themselves so damn serious

Political correctness and health and safety are two very different things. If you like, you can go live somewhere without these things, where they'll treat you differently for being foreign and you'll die earlier because of the lack of health and safety. No one is stopping you.

I have read all the posts on here, and I am really not sure. The title is "homophobic chants". The two chants which I have heard infer that a large proportion of Brighton fans are Gay, as opposed to the smaller percentage of our fans who are Gay. As I have no issues with anyone's sexuality, this does not really seem much of an insult. Indeed, it seems to me that the people most likely to be offended at being called Gay, are the homophobes!
I also do not detect any malice in these chants, unlike the bile aimed occasionaly at some of our own players, particularly in previous seasons!
So I don't have any problem with these chants at all? Well, not quite. They do rely on a really lazy stereotyping which is why I was pleased that much of the dire ITV comedy served up in the 70s which was similarly based has been swept away.
No, I don't join in the singing, but there is undeniably a rather childish bit of me which smiles inside. But it's not big, and it's not clever.

As Alan Partridge said "I'm not homophobic, I'm homoskeptic, the way I see it: God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve" now tell me that is not funny???

It's funny because the character is a parody, and the things he says are intended to be things which an old-fashioned, ignorant, conservative person would say. It's funny in the way that Borat's opinions of Jews and women are funny. It's not funny because it's true.

Hang on son. Everyone knows that Brighton is not a town full of gays, And just because a few simpletons don't realise this it does not mean that they will plant a nail bomb. Football fans are brighter then you think.

Anyone who is gay would find this thread funny. Just because someone is gay, doesnt mean they dont have a sense of humour you know.
I work with a couple of gay guys, who love the banter, and certainly give as good as they get.
One of them calls himself Sonic,as he is always chasing rings.

You have to agree though Brighton coming to St Marys certainly has put bums on seats, and if the rumours are true that's the safest place for them

Completely agree. There seems to be a hierarchy here. Racist chanting is completely out of bounds. Homophobic chanting is frowned upon, and Sexist chanting is positively laughed at. Yet they should all be equally not heard at a football match.
