maybe these songs are a modern thing but ever since my first football match in the mid eighties this has been a norm that I have seen whether at eh Dell or at Sincil Bank or any where else.

Home fans support their side with their usual songs, however there is always the supposedly antagonistic songs toward the opposition whether it be the 'sheep shaggers' or 'we smell fish' or simply the good old 'who are ya'.

The one I have seen wind the opposition up most (when sung by the away fans) is the 'you're supposed to be at home' when for obvious reasons when the away fans are singing for 90 minutes they will not be able to hear the home fans and therefore are completely wrong (in most cases) however it does wind them up something chronic.

It didn't cause fights. Those that would fight fight anyway however the rest of us were friendly before the game, then abuse each other at the game then friendly again after the game. The only time I ever saw a violent reaction was when Brighton were doing their 'sit down' protest against their chairman Archer at Sincil Bank. The stewards stopped them from going on to the pitch (they had done their protest in the centre circle every where else.) The Lincoln hardcore fans broke into a round of 'We love you Archer, we do' At which point the Brighton fans charged up the seats and started climbing over the segregation.

The Lincoln kids stopped shouting and ran away. The Lincoln hardcore stood their ground prompting the Brighton fans to continue their advance. It turned into a lot of shouting at eahc other from 10 yards over the segregation. A lot of pointing, gesturing and nothing else.

As for derogatory racist remarks. Loads of teams came to the Dell and sang to Le Tiss and Le Saux 'you're french and you know you are'. We at Lincoln sang to Chester 'you're welsh and you know you are'

Both of the above implying that being French or Welsh is an insult. Le Tiss would've put a thumbs up to the fans singing it. He wouldn't have filed an official complaint on it.

Maybe he complained about the 'fattist' and 'big nosist' chants? Very over the top IMO hoI am now looking forward to some back and forth

I hope political correctness doesn`t take the banter out of football, as it helps make the game such fun. I remember paying good money to watch Pompey play Celtic at nottarF kraP in a friendly many years ago - our fishy chums chanted `Jock-straps`, much to everyones amusement. Not very witty, but all taken in good humour.
