what makes you think they wouldn't need a warrant just as they do now ?

Maybe it will, maybe it won't (things in Britain, and elsewhere, tend to be becoming more authoritarian over the years though and I see less digital-privacy as a trend). Already lots of people have wide open access to your browsing history without a warrant. Why the postman needs to have access to see what kind of porn you like beats me. (That's my favourite porn btw... the ones where postmen beat people. Spank her Pat, spank her)

err digital privacy is getting more for the obvious reason more and more SM apps are using encryption.
oh and if you're worried about your postman get a new one .

Is that an option?

(I actually like my mail lady, she's friendly, handles my packages well- unlike FedEx or UPS - and can't see my browsing history being outside the UK)

so what reason can you give for Police forces not being able to view the messages sent by a suspected peadophile .?

if you think it stops there where everyone apart from prince Andrew would agree but we know it will be a blanket spying operation like the way they got through the back door after the terrorism act where even ex service men in Britain are being harassed as a threat against the government

how longs a piece of string

I'm not opposed to them reading messages. I'm opposed to them reading them without going through a warrant.

did you listen to what Edward Snowden said about how they started tapping phones in America without a court order

talk about give em an inch <laugh>

of course the security services are monitoring online activitu but what we are discussing is the police request to have the tech companies supply decrypted versions of communications when serious criminal activity is suspected

well the police can want, let’s hope they don’t get

for me there’s no bigger criminals than the ones that are looking for this law to be passed in the first place,,,, do u think the establishment would fk it’s own interests for our safety <laugh>

Yes. Snowden was very active on slashdot back when I used to be active there, before he became famous, back when slashdot was more tech focused... I wasn't friends with him or anything, but I remember having discussions with someone on there who made the exact same accusations Snowden made with Evidence. A few days after the whole incident blew up I saw a news article about how he used slashdot and had a "holy crap, I've been chatting with that guy about this very issue" moment.

I remember thinking before that "how is any of this new? Don't we already know the government is doing all this" then when I realized he was the one on slashdot it became obvious, this hadn't been well known.

I knew all about the workings of the coppers, along with the youth borstals and prison systems. I can honestly say I wouldn't be stupid enough to put something in writing that I thought would incriminate me. Much like grasses not keeping their mouths shut, which is a lot worse than anything you could put in writing yourself, just sounds like paranoia to me. I'm sure I've even said to a few individuals on here over the course of time I've been on here, to be careful what they divulge, it's commonsense with or without the new legislation. Coppers will even stop you on the street, if they are concerned you were a suspect they are looking for due to a crime within the near vicinity, and so they allow you to go on your way, they will ask to look through your phone to prove who you are, along with other stuff, they do that there and then without any legislation, 'to make your life easier' or you go down the old bill shop with them, which might be inconvenient if you are off out somewhere. Anyway they aint got enough cells to chuck everyone. <laugh>

When I was a young tearaway I out run the Old Bill on two occasions, I had a motorbike that could do 115mph on the clock most of the police cars could not beat that, both occasions I got a distance in front then went onto the hard shoulder between lorries lights off and waited for the ehhorr ehhorr to go past then wait a couple of minutes and back on my way, in those days they had to catch you to convict you unlike today

Funniest thing was a few years later when I was being followed by an unmarked police when I was driving a sports car, they gave up in the end after a few miles, the funny part was they were in one of those Swedish sport cars that The Saint drove, in full uniform complete with the pointy helmets

some coppers love the game of it just like we do

was a copper down with us at ninian park Cardiff that was as brutal as he was fair…..first I saw of him I was with my dad bit far from where it kicked off against Swansea and he was fully in there before riot gear **** stuff came about he had a right beating but stood his ground

years later he went up the ranks and do did i……many a time he would see what had happened and he’d say aberdude fk off anymore of that and you be in the van….fking great

he followed as with wales games away from home as a spotter ge fling loved his job and tbh I think he loved the football and it’s characters more

anyway probably the only copper to have a minute’s applause at ninian park after he passed away
