Strange last sentence from Jobe there.

You wouldn’t normally hear a player say he doesn’t fancy playing a certain position regularly.

To me that says 1 of 2 things.

He’s either a bit naive and inexperienced in how to talk in the football world. Or it’s arrogance.

I hope it’s the 1st one.

 

Not sure about that Sandy, but the crack was that Monty couldn't see the edge of his box without contact lenses, hence my username

 

Monty always struggled with anything 25 yards+.

He is only 17. I personally think he speaks brilliantly, especially for a kid of his age, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

I’ve no issue with what he says there either. He doesn’t say he won’t do it, in fact the opposite:
“Wherever he asks me to play I’m going to play so I don’t mind.”

Just that it’s not his preference:

“I don’t really fancy playing regularly as a number nine.”

Yes I can recall him scoring a hat trick all from 20-25 yards at Roker , I think it was a league cup game . In the FA cup tie at Old Trafford he took a heavy knock though I don’t know whether he lost his contact lens or not , in my opinion he was rushed up back on to his feet and appeared to be still dazed when play resumed as their was only two or three minutes to go . A great victory snatched away !

I don't think its either of these things. He's a very mature, calm and open speaker. I think its more a case of him admitting its out of position for him and that its not where his strengths lie. It shows confidence that he knows where he should be playing, rather than arrogance.

For me it would be naive of him to now be thinking that he might be a number 9 after a couple of decent performances. And it shows maturity that he knows its an interim thing.

 

I think its easy to say that but he was part of a partnership with Amad and contributed greatly to the team along with Hume so statistically he may not look great but his overall contribution last season was excellent and should not be easily overlooked IMO.

Glad they got him some air max 90s to fit in the with the local area

 

I recall he took a knock and was dazed a bit....don't remember the contact lens bit. Johnny Crossan that day was immense,ran the show! I was 11years old,there with my Dad. Heartbroken,but the consolation was perhaps the greatest night match in my lifetime at Roker the following Wednesday. I can still remember the atmosphere!
