So if I am coming in at waistheight not expecting him to lurch to the his left and drop low, that is not mitigation? What is mitigation?
I'm not a rugby referee so I'm no expert but what I do know is they are clamping down on impacts to the head. I think unless you are unsighted or are pushed by another player you're getting a red.

So the argie one is just a yellow for a late hit jumping into his face after the ball has gone, but the English guy has a fraction of a second to adjust and is a red. This game is ****.
Only reason he hasn't been sent off is he missed the England player's head.

Rugby has gone, hasn’t it? This card stuff is utter nonsense. Nothing is allowed to be an accident. Cobblers. Let’s just make it touch rugby. It’s a clearly accidental clash of heads.
When it comes to intent only one of them was reckless. We get a red because heads end up in unexpected locations. They get no red for a late clattering.

I think the issue is if he had tackled properly it wouldn't have happened. Accident or not, head to head impacts can be really dangerous in this sport.
