The top ten Edinburgh Fringe jokes this year are absolutely dreadful. Maybe a reflection of the times we live in, where anything can be offensive.
Me & the bairn strolled through Washington last night, we went from Usworth through Concord then down to Washington Village and back, we must have seen over 15 youths dressed head to toe in black and some wearing balaclavas tearing around on those electric bikes. Pulling wheelies up the wrong side of the road, swerving at the last minute to avoid people and cars, generally being absolute dickheads. On my way back one of the dickheads sped towards us and swerved at the last minute and then proceeded to laugh about it with his mates !! The bairn said she thinks she knows who some of them are and I could tell she was a little frightened, in her words they are nasty kids who are known to gang up on people, she basically asked me not to react in case she got the back lash. I will admit I was looking for something to throw at the b******s if they tried it again, I was absolutely fuming by the time we got home as they done the same to an oldish couple and numerous cars along Concord front street, if one of those cars hit them head on someone is going to end up seriously hurt or injured, then comes the public outpouring of grief etc etc, from what I seen last night I would have had zero sympathy for any of the idiots if they had an accident. The parents should be ashamed of themselves, I know you cant keep on top of them every minute of every day but those bikes cost a fortune so they must know its their feral offspring causing the issues in the area.
These electric bikes and scooters are the reason I finally got around to getting a dash cam . When one hits me , I’m not having social media talking about the reckless driver who’s harmed the little innocent cherub. Ganging up on people shows what little cowards they are , Wouldn’t do anything on own , but they know they can aggress with the strength of the whole gang in them . And of course , they know that they are untouchable- any adult who retaliated will be the one on camera and up in court
Absolutely shocking behaviour, hope the bairn was alright and you managed to calm down sharpish. The part you said about the public outpouring, that's the part that pisses me off, then the sister sets up a go fund me page to raise 50 quid for flowers..... 10 grand later, and they driver of the cars life is over and probably prison time.
Is it just me, or are the roads getting madder these days? It's like some people have forgotten they are in control of a tool that could kill someone. ****e lane judgment, seemingly they unable to navigate filter lanes by pulling across, nearly causing an accident but it's fine, they chuck an indicator on at the last second and throw an apologetic hand up. Darting out at round abouts, clearly darting through a red light behind you because it went to Amber as you went through and they were 15 yards behind, then end up in your boot to avoid the traffic they have just darted infront of. Everyone in a rush. Amazon vans doing 50 mile an hour through estates. People just back using their phones because you've got more chance of bumping into Beyonce than seeing a copper car these days. I've been driving best part of 20 years and I've never known it this crackers.
Never looked at life like that before. Have you ever thought about this? In 100 years time in 2123 we will all be buried with our relatives and friends. Strangers will live in our homes we fought so hard to build, and they will own everything we have today. All our possessions will be unknown and unborn, including the car we spent a fortune on, and will probably be scrap, preferably in the hands of an unknown collector. Our descendants will hardly or hardly know who we were, nor will they remember us. How many of us know our grandfather's father? After we die, we will be remembered for a few more years, then we are just a portrait on someone's bookshelf, and a few years later our history, photos and deeds disappear in history's oblivion. We won't even be memories. If we paused one day to analyze these questions, perhaps we would understand how ignorant and weak the dream to achieve it all was. If we could only think about this, surely our approaches, our thoughts would change, we would be different people. Always having more, no time for what's really valuable in this life. I'd change all this to live and enjoy the walks I've never taken, these hugs I didn't give, these kisses for our children and our loved ones, these jokes we didn't have time for. Those would certainly be the most beautiful moments to remember, after all they would fill our lives with joy. And we waste it day after day with greed, greed and intolerance. Anon
Exactly this Mate ! The speed those bikes can go and all they have on their empty heads is a balaclava !! They are dicing with death but like you say it will be the poor motorist who would probably take the blame if they hit one of the clowns. I cant believe they are legal.
I think with the birth of social media we'll be remembered longer than like it said above about gradfathers father etc. Keanu Reeves said when asked "What do you think happens when we die" He's answer "The ones that loved us, will miss us". As I read that post I thought of the film Vanilla Sky, about pausing a moment in time. As I type this Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel came on Absolute Rock..... the song was in Vanilla Sky.
Very profound and thought inspiring Rooch. My hobby is genealogy and I have researched my family back a quite few generations with evidence and found some interesting things about them, especially about my great grandfather and his brother. What you wrote there made me think that my hobby is not just about the past but about recording the present so our descendants don't have to go scratching around for information and have it readily available.
I once had a similar situation in an area I bought my first house. Half a dozen blokes including me, who were good friends, got together and did the gang over one by one. We nicked their MO and dressed in black boilersuits, black masks and black gloves ... all nicked from work, oops. One of the lads brought indelible blue road marking sprays, from his workplace, and we lathered the bastards in that stuff. We frightened them and only give them a few slaps but took their boots, money and ***s. They reacted for a week or so but drifted apart and it all calmed down. Dunno if it would work for you but it was fun being a vigilante for a bit
Not sure our lass would take kindly to me popping out with the lads for an hour dressed like a commando but I admire your bravery On a serious note I have heard that one or 2 of the dickheads have upset one or 2 of the local nutters and there may be a little rough justice handed out !
Sadly it's the only way, the police have virtually given up. We didn't have mobile phones so I bet it would be easier now especially if you put a drone up!!! If I was in that situation now I'd even go as far as buying a police stinger off Ebay and fetching a few off their bikes tbh. I know the consequences could be serious but WTF, they might be without my intervention. Incidentally it wasn't particularly brave, we'd just go and find them in small groups ... ... one of the lads brought his uncle's alsation dog, Max, which was a rescue and psychotic, I was fkn terrified of it The best thing was the next morning when you'd see someone with blue hair at the bus stop.
These are becoming a complete nuisance absolutely everywhere. Was talking to a copper recently and they despise them, not allowed to chase them as it’s too dangerous. They even pull up alongside the cop cars and give them the finger hoping for a reaction. They are basically thugs for hire as nobody “legal” can touch them…only a matter of time before a vigilante group take matters into their own hands. I wouldn’t stop to help if I saw one get hit by a car or go into a lamppost. Law needs to change regarding these bikes.
All the necessary legislation exists mate, it's the execution of those laws which is lacking. You're right about it only being a matter of time before ordinary people take action ... ... it may take a trigger like an innocent child being flattened but, once people are angry enough, they'll take action and want revenge ... ... it's what made Britain great
As Smug says , law is there . What needs to change is police numbers and if the police apprehend then courts that will punish enough to deter, them and others watching.
