Couldn’t agree more. As my previous post this is a strategy of patience, sometimes comes off, sometimes bites you on the candy arse. I do wish we would go for maybe one or two more elite players sooner rather than later, just to show that we’re aiming ultimately for the top. In my view, right or wrong.. this transfer window was the one where high end players stood up and took notice & was the perfect opportunity for us to go for it, given we have that rare opportunity of the Champions League. Time will tell. Why were dithering about on a centre back is a bit baffling tho.
Aston Villa had their takeover a good few years before Newcastle so are ahead of Newcastle in their build. Aston Villa whether we like it or not ate a far more successful and bigger club than the toon aswel. Newcastle will get there in the end.
I’ve always been surprised that Villa were the bigger club in Birmingham, I mean they’re just from Aston a small part of the place.. you’d have thought Brum would be the bigger club.
I guess we don't know the full story and who Newcastle didn't fancy etc. I get the impression Howe would rather sign safe players than fancy names and I suppose so far nufc have done well to do just that. I guess the window isn't complete either, so maybe we get something exciting , but honestly I don't think we will.
That’s the difference I think between British and foreign managers.. Emery for example has gone for the more exotic names such as Pau Torres, Diaby etc where as we gone for Barnes, Burn.. positives for both sides, let’s see how it pans out.
They've won loads mate including the European Cup. It's part of why they dont like Newcastle because in the 90's they along with Everton felt we'd stolen their place. They look at Newcastle like we'd look at a lesser club stealing our glory. The fact is they are both far bigger clubs in terms of success, but similar in terms of having strong local fanbases.
I have a funny feeling Diaby won’t work out. Zaniolo is also quite lightweight whereas players like Barnes and Gordon are just used to roughing it. We will see - I wouldn’t be unhappy with Villas or Chelsea’s summer recruitment but I’m baffled by Arsenal and Man U.
Zaniolo is a unit... I agree though they might flop in the prem.. I don't think they will though. Diaby vs targett or burn will give us a clue.
Don't understand the Havertz move, Xhaka for Rice is of course an upgrade but also don't understand the Raya deal either. Timber, who knows, could be good. I'm not blown away. Man U, Mount is bang average, Chelsea really rinsed them on that, and Hojlund for £72m is insane, they seem to have fallen for the hype. He's more Timo Werner than Erling Haaland.
Well, we'll see. I'd expected a bit more of an inrush, but still a bit of the window to run, the squad is in a good place, injury wise, and we're building on an excellent season with minimal disruption and a good pre-season. Some big commercial deals coming hopefully, and we'll be in a good position FFP wise still after this summer. Villa, I think might need to be a little careful regards the finances unless they can continue the upward trend. They're having a good go though. Fair play to them.
Evidence of Saka vs Burn / Joelintoon last season... We've got the tools. PS - Joelintoon was a mistake, but I like it.
We've got better players than the majority realise. I keep hearing voices saying things like #with those type of players. It's never dawned on them that they're quite simply very good players!
