I just think it's a pointless discussion this 3 at the back thing. Rosenior has explained it won't happen because he wants us to press high and he doesn't think that shape lends itself to high pressing. Nowadays whenever a team loses, fans always have to put it down to a lineup or formation thing, we can never just accept that maybe we played poorly or should've done certain things better. McCann had this every week with his 4-3-3 when we were struggling and now you sense it's bubbling up with Rosenior too. You could play any formation you want but if you give the ball away straight after winning it every time then you're going to lose.

Where has this idea come from that Vaughan is playing out of position? Every game he's played for us has been at left wing, he's looked at home there and its rare you see a 5'5" 19-year old trusted to play centrally.

I’m not at all arsed about three at the back. I think the system Rosenior likes which is a 4-2-3-1 would work well if one of the holding midfield players was Simons and we had pace on the wings. I just don’t think a set-up of Seri and Slater in front of the back four with Tufan behind or even next to the striker and Traoré as a winger works.

I know some don’t fancy Allahyar that much this season but his work-rate defensively would’ve provided a lot more cover for Coyle on Saturday and his pace gives full-backs something to think about.

You need to sacrifice one of Seri, Slater or Tufan for Simons for this team to be good off the ball. Slater’s a box-to-box midfielder, Seri’s a deep-lying playmaker, Traoré’s a #10 and Tufan ironically is a defensive midfielder by trade but Rosenior has played him pretty much everywhere but there (Dawson played Tufan as a defensive mid against Wigan at home last season and made more tackles than anyone else on the pitch lol).

Because he himself apparently considers his self a central forward player.

I don’t really know with Vaughan. He doesn’t particularly look like winger to me despite being good at running with the ball. Doesn’t really stretch the play at all and is always looking to come central and pick up the ball rather than making runs. Just because he’s 165cm, 19 and only played there under this manager doesn’t mean he’s not better centrally.

Tufan has always been a defensive midfielder but he’s only played on the wing or up front for Rosey.

I was stood looking at the ball, in the stadium, pretty much in line with the goalline, and that ball was very conspicuously out. The ref/assistant ****ed up and cost us the game, even if it would have been a fortunate point.

I’m surprised Rosenior didn’t play Tufan in his natural position during any of the pre-season games. He’s probably the fittest he’s been in his career for a while and his work-rate in the time he’s been here has come on leaps and bounds.

It’s definitely still on the line in that still image, use the goal posts, which we know 100% are perfectly bang in line, as a guide to judge the angle and the distance between the ball and line and you can see the ball would still be on the line if you were looking straight along it. So unless it travels another couple of inches after that still, the officials made the correct call.

It seems bonkers to me to be constantly saying that we get overrun in midfield and we need a big DM, and then in the next breath saying that you want Tufan in there. I don't care if he's played there in Turkey, he's very soft at times and gives up on things easily. He's the absolute opposite of the Smallwood type you're usually wanting. And on top of that, you'd be moving one of our best goal threats away from the goal.

Backlash to English football's stoppage time increases. Varane claims it's "damaging the game" after Guardiola's criticism. 33 out 35 EFL matches lasted more than 100mins compared to six in opening round last season.

It’s not ideal and I’d prefer Simons there out of what we have right now but it is Tufan’s natural position and there would’ve been no harm in playing him there in pre-season. It’s not that deep. Dawson experimented with Tufan there last season and he did well. Got stuck in with tackles and generally recycled the ball well for us. That was in October when he was still carrying some timber.

They've just been talking about it on Talk Sport and saying exactly the same.. Sunderland was 14:40 overtime... and if LR is correct the fact the referee was concentrating on his watch rather than the game thats disgraceful.

I would like to see Tufan given a run of games there. He seems to read the game well and is fairly strong in the challenge. I can’t think of any examples where he’s given up on something either. He’s very good at making late runs and playing deeper it’s something he would get more opportunities to do also.

If they introduced extra time into American football the game would end next week...Just an observation. Like.

But they don’t need to do they because they simply stop the clock when the ball goes dead.

That’s what we should do. It would make time wasting pointless, apart from trying to regroup positionally, but still allow teams to take quick throws when it works for them.

Still have the ability to card players for time wasting, but you wouldn’t get it constantly anyway.

Match would be longer, which I guess is what they’re saying, but I fail to see how it would ‘spoil’ the game.

We certainly weren't pressing high enough at Norwich

People just always want whatever team isn't currently being picked. So different formation, Vaughan and Tufan in different positions, oh and Simons definitely must start even though we've barely ever seen him play and he clearly isn't rated as highly as those that do, and so on. Exact same thing as the England selection phenomenon where whoever gets picked is **** and only there cos they're the manager's favourite and whoever doesn't get picked is a disgraceful omission, every single squad.

If you take the emotion out and stop thinking there must always be an instant, simple solution to every bad performance, you can see that there are perfectly logical explanations for why things are as they are.
