Yep. Cost himself a lot of cash I'd say that lad. If he'd signed what we offered, even though it meant dealing with the chancers, which was probably not miles off what he got by moving, he might have scored say eight goals or so in the second half of that season. That would have been over twenty in a season, at 19, and he gets his move on the back of that, and probably on more than he's been on since. Not that his agent will have been bothered. On to the next one for him.
Not only that, mate. If he'd scored another 8-10 goals it may well have been the difference to us going up or not. We ended that season only 6 points off an automatic place and we're still in contention for an automatic spot until our legs came off in the last half dozen games or so. We were second when we drew with Burton on 9/4/19, which we tend to forget about now. That would probably have seen him get a promotion bonus and a crack at the championship with us while still developing. That could have easily lead to a decent move later, especially if he did pretty well with us.
Nothing to suggest he's anything other than L1 standard. Scored goals for us, but wasn't in the league long enough for defenders to "find him out". Scored a few in Ligue 1, but done nothing since. 1 in 15 at Stoke a couple of seasons back. Interested to see what he does at WBA, but not expecting much
I don't see how people can blame Maja for leaving. He got an opportunity to leave League 1 and play in a league against players like Mpappe and Neymar. He took a risk and it didnt work out, but who can blame him for giving it a go.
I don't think it's because of what happened as much as how it happened. There'd been contract talks ongoing, an offer on the table for him to sign, but his agent played funny bugger. He'd deliberately missed meetings, turned up deliberately late, duffed taking phone calls, postponed meetings with the club for a couple of months before announcing he'd agreed to go to Bordeaux. It seemed that the agent pushed for the deal regardless and that Maja went along with it, wittingly or not. Had it been clear in October or November that he was going to move and the contract had been turned down it probably would have been better accepted instead of the way it came out.
he pissed off and cost us promotion has a guilty complex, be the same if Stewart leaves, like Bent and the rest of them. Look what happened to Bent.
