if he was here last season I’m sure it would have been tried. He’s a hard worker so would close down well. Probably done the same or better job than Gelhardt in that role

But according to the actual report - Middlesbrough are only considering a bid as Sunderland could sell Stewart before the deadline! :emoticon-0114-dull:

I think we’d be extremely happy to get bids for him now. The issue before the deadline is whether clubs make bids.

Like it's been said on here before - is any club going to actually bid for him before he has proven his fitness? I seriously doubt it

same. I just can’t see it. I was just commenting on the idea that Boro would only bid if we’d be willing to accept. I genuinely think we’d snap their hands off for anything over £3m now

Are you suggesting this is a headline written in a way to encourage people to open the link thus creating traffic through the site and increasing revenue from selling advertising space?

****ing hate clickbait ****ers. Might aswell put "You won't believe what this 90's sex symbol look like now" "wife sent this picture to husband and he immediately beheaded her!"

I think that's what it will be. We won't let him leave for nowt and I think a club will take the chance to get a player who would be 15m or so for pocket change.

Don’t think the club can be massively blamed either. At £3m he’s clearly underpriced (I’ve made this figure up), but would still represent a relatively huge profit on his outlay (10x increase), and would be able to be used to bring in quality and the third striker the club need but possibly can’t justify getting whilst Stewart is lingering.

I kinda admire the club for not being held to ransom on his wages. And it’s just incredibly unfortunate for everybody (except the buying club) that his injury has absolutely ruined any sort of sensible planning

What saga? Its only a saga because its brought up by posters on here and RTG. No one has bid for him, he nor his representatives have made any comment about his situation. He's injured and it's not the type of injury that another club would take a risk on. It'll only become a saga in January if he's returned from injury and is playing well.

When LND was injured I’m pretty sure big Tone or someone from within the club said he should be back for preseason. So I have my thoughts maybe this injury is being dragged out perposly.

Blackburn fans have suggested that JDT didn't favour him at Blackburn last season because he didn't have the legs/wasn't mobile enough to play the pressing game with the intensity that they wanted. They weren't criticising his effort or work rate, just saying he wasn't a fit for the system.

They also said that when Mowbray played him as a false 9 that it was awful. The success would depend on the players around him though and our personnel may be better suited to accommodating him there (plus they generally have a huge downer on all things Mowbray). Based on Mowbray's comments when he signed, I think the club have definitely brought him in considering him to be a forward option though.

Tbf if all he can do is stand up front and compete for headers to begin with, we've got the quality behind him to capitalize.

no way. Firstly it’s in our interest to have clubs wanting to buy him now. At the moment the most likely scenario to me feels that he leaves on a free having barely played this season.

secondly the timelines given originally were incredibly optimistic. I couldn’t believe when the club came out and said he’d be ready for pre season. I had written him off until Christmas and had hoped the contract would be sorted so that he’d be a boost in second half of season.

pre-contract to rangers in January and then a season doing a Rodwell is my fear.

I suspect there is much truth in that.

I now wonder, if he does not recover 100% from the injury, LND curses his agent as his wages run out at the end of the this season. A 4 year deal would gave meant wages guaranteed.

I think he will stay for now and something happen in January. His agent will probably have spoken to clubs about the option of him signing a pre-contract.

I’d like to see us move for another striker for now regardless, a Joe Gelhardt or even Phillips type. We could use that type of player alongside Hemir and Mayenda where needed. Once the Steward position becomes clear we can look to replace him at that point but I’m happy to let it ride for now.

You watch it become widely circulated now as the figure we'd accept and eventually become gospel. It happened before on here, you casually mentioned a figure to give as an example and within a couple of days it was across Twitter and RTG and perhaps even in some articles. I can't remember who or what it was though, do you recall?

I think their problem with him was lack of pace? And that they needed somebody in that role with pace. But our style is all about direct pace up the pitch either through quick passing or carrying. Which means our “false 9” could very much act like a pivot which would suit a slower player with good vision , as long as they have the work rate to get into the right positions and close down centre backs.
