I think it's as simple as energy security. We should never have farmed it all off elsewhere in the first place.

Most people understand it's more complicated than just stopping or just restarting.

Yep, as with Merkel in Germany giving in too the Greens for short term political gains, Germany does not have nuclear power, but relies on coal (most polluting) or Russian Gas.

It must be very clear, except to the most nutty (flat earther) climate denier. That we must transition to renewable (and nuclear) energy.
As well as little Rishi's 'drill' volte face, the banning on onshore windfalls (tory voting nimbys) and the likes of Titchmarsh protesting about solar windfalls.

In some ways we need to get on a 'war footing' and stop making the issue party political..

I have started watching Chris Packman's Earth which is interesting in it's explanation of previous climate changes over the millions of years since Earth evolved.

I would like to see a cross party group set up too work together on this, so whoever comes to power will still be working on initiatives, already in place.

This way money for such projects should not be going into any old mates funds at the expense of the project itself.

Surely you are not thinking of PPE, or the Tory Council that has gone bust cos it invested in some 'connected businessman solar power farm?

As l said, all the above will not save the planet if Britain are the only country doing it.
So many of our countries councils are in financial difficulties.My home town which has been run by the Tories since William the Conqueror is in a state of bankruptcy.
Labour run Birmingham, who has a very good leader almost bankrupt.
They are the tip of the iceberg l'm afraid.

A BBC programme on tonight repeated a lot of the stuff said in the Climate Change posts above.

One point that came up that I forgot, it was Cameron who stopped the grants for insulation of homes in 2013. If your home is not well insulted, Heat Pumps will not keep the house warm.

Unfortunately we will be reliant on fossil fuels for many years to come, even as we transition as it’s not an overnight thing.

On the new drilling rights, most of it will probably end up being sold abroad anyway as we don’t really have anywhere to store it. The main gas storage facility was closed by the conservatives on 2017 as it cost too much and only partly reopened last year. Talk about a huge mistake!

As with everything the government announces there are more questions than answers…

The Johnson, Corbyn, Biden and Trump situations (and Corbyn too, plus Corbyn and Corbyn....) are showing us what happens when you get so ideologically entrenched the only people you can employ are nutters - everyone else isn't pure enough. So most of the talent available is automatically excluded.

While we're on renewable energy, we've hit a milestone here at work. The latest wind farm scoping application today takes the number of turbines our radar is going to have to deal with to....700.

One of my biggest issues with the Tories is housing. It’s proper Maslow stuff a stable home. There should be a huge increase in affordable stable housing which means more social housing. I think social housing organisations should be a significant partner for any government. They could improve so many peoples life situation. However it gets in the way of the rich getting richer. Why would you want to make a million vulnerable people stable when you could make a few thousand Tory landowners and developers millions to waste on champagne.

The last sentence sums up the whole ethos of conservatism/neoliberalism. Government of the masses to benefit the few. Those fortunate few's money then miraculously trickles down to the great unwashed.
