Wasn't it acun himself that said FFP would be/is an an issue not so long ago?

It's a strange interview, that comes across as a little damage limitation imo. If we don't have any issue with FFP then our transfer window & strategy have been a little head scratching to say the least.

A friend of mine at derby made a very interesting comment when we brought in Liam and at the time I laughed it off, but I'm starting to see little bit of potential truth it in, they said... "Liam isn't a big fan of having senior/experienced players and or players with strong character that won't just listen and nod no matter what 100% of the time".

And one final point to look at things objectively as opposed to just going on who said it..... If ehab was still running the show and we where having the exact same window as we are now and he gave that interview. I think people would be up in arms.

Possibly a little negative for my liking, but things just aren't adding up for me ATM based on things I'm hearing, what the club's saying and the actual things that are/aren't happening.

FFP thing is an issue for every club who's spending anywhere close to their limit - and most are. It's the reality of having a spending cap in a competitive division where everyones spending to their limit to be as competitive as possible.

Acun said its not a 'problem'. He didn't say there's no 'issue' as we're clearly constrained like everyone else.

I know it's semantics but I take that to mean were not projected to be in breech of it currently, and therefore are not compelled to sell to keep the FA from knocking.

Of course the budget will be there depending what we can recoup from sales. Which is the same boat as most clubs.

You only get the headroom once. After that is trading out to trade in.

I think what you said the other day about Rosenior starting to sound like Parkinson was quite accurate as well. Sometimes when he talks, you get the feeling he likes the sound of his own voice and thinks his **** doesn’t stink.

He’s very ambitious and I do like him. I like that he has a philosophy and clear sense of what he wants to do and how he wants to achieve it. However, he talks like he’s been a top-level coach for decades when he talks about ‘his standards’ and ‘his demands’. I get it, he’s the gaffer and he needs the respect of the players for things to work (Shota lacked this apparently) and to do that you need standards and expectations of those below you.

I don’t know, it just comes across sometimes that he talks a good game and that his ego is greater than his experience. I’ve had managers in work who were young guys who came in and said ‘we’re going to do this, this and that to improve and be successful and this is the way to do it’ and whilst that ‘my way or the high way’ attitude might hold some sway over younger employees, older experienced ones will be more stubborn.

I thought a couple quotes from Liam were interesting on Tuesday night. Sounds like he isn't concerned about landing his targets

"We have a transfer window where we're working really hard to bring players in and we'll do that. I'm really confident that when I get the squad I want, we're going to be a real force"

"We're working so hard on incomings and outgoings and I'm sure with the work that we're doing we'll have a really competitive squad"

"If we get the targets I'm expecting, we could be in for a real exciting time"

Maybe that's the disparity that HT2 is referring to. He's hearing different to what's being said.

I can't imagine that the gaffer or owner wouldn't be aware of the risk of over-promising and under-delivering though.

Perhaps they have things happening that ITKs aren't yet aware of? Cards have been played much closer this window.

I can't imagine that the gaffer or owner wouldn't be aware of the risk of over 0romisiolng and under delivering though.

Perhaps they have things happening that ITKs aren't yet aware of? Cards have been played much closer this window.

I've absolutely no doubt there with be things going on that 99.9% of people don't know about and that's the best way to do things imo

I think it's been a fairly consistent message that they are absolutely being mindful of it and we can only run at a budget which complies with it.

That's very different to saying they have to reduce the budget to avoid a points deduction and therefore compelled to flog off our assets.

It's turnover plus 13m (ave over 3 years). That's the budget.

If you don't spend up to it then you're not maximising it, but once you're close to it you have to move players out to get new ones in.

Most championship clubs accept this as reality now. I think the reason it's relatively new for us as fans is we went from parachute payments to owner disinvestment and then to L1.

Since the rules have been enforced the way they are now, City haven't been ambitious enough to spend the limit until recently.

I don’t think it’s been that consistent, to be honest. It’s gone from being quite cautious a few months ago to now basically saying ‘I’ve heard fans voicing concerns regarding FFP; there’s nothing to be concerned about and there’s no issue with FFP’.

I’m sick of hearing about FFP tbh. Football fans shouldn’t have to be this invested in the club’s balance sheets and should just enjoy the football but it’s hard to ignore it these days because it’s such a crucial aspect of how the club performs in the transfer market and therefore on the pitch.

He said there's no 'problem' with FFP.

Obviously they have to conduct business in a way where it doesnt become one.

That's very different from saying there's absolutely 'no issue' and we can spend what we want, as no club can say that.

I expect the bigger signings will come late in the window and we simply have to move some out first.

I’m sick of it tbh. It’s just a dark cloud that hangs over any ambitious club and owner that doesn’t have huge revenue streams or parachute payments. I’d be less anxious about how we perform in the transfer market this summer if FFP wasn’t a thing. In a way, it’s sucked some of the excitement of a new season from me and replaced it with worry about the club’s finances.
