Never a problem in a company making a fair profit. But there seems to be a disparity between making a fair profit and giving a fair price. I believe Tesco did stop stocking Unilever products once (2016) with Unilever instructing them to put up prices by 10%. Hearing excessive profit announcements, time after time, while a nation is struggling to manage its costs and fall into debt seems unjust in my world.
Oh absolutely it’s unjust. Not disputing that at all. But a multinational conglomerate won’t give a **** about the bloke on £30k with two kids who can’t afford the 20% increase in his shopping versus a few months ago. It’s not a UK-specific problem but we’ve sold out to a relatively small number of businesses when it comes to the bulk of our grocery shopping and this is the result. But the place I am is comparable in size and isn’t having a great time despite huge demand for the products even at times like these so it’s not easy for even the big suppliers to make big margins right now. Unilever will have almost a monopoly for some of their big brands which will give them far too much power and we suffer.
I’ve been following the discussion of this hilarious episode on here. There appears to be a gap in the market for a bank which matches Nigel Farage’s moral and ethical position. Let’s see how long it takes for the financial services sector to take advantage of this particular opportunity. I wonder how many people would flock to join a bank reflecting Nigel’s worldview. Given the constant background whining I reckon a bank declaring itself to be anti woke, anti diversity, anti European, anti immigration etc etc would find a healthy niche in the market. It’s as if the people up in arms about this bullshit have no agency to change anything or ability to get up off their arses and sort things out to their own satisfaction…..I thought this was the ‘self help’ brigade personified? ….of course a bank, or any other organisation, doesn’t have a moral or ethical position, any more than it has a conscience. Individuals within the bank made a decision that it was bad business to be associated with a ‘disingenuous grifter’ like Farage. That decision has backfired on them big time, which is funny in itself. Because bankers are largely, I’m guessing, disingenuous grifters themselves. I notice no other bank has rushed to offer him an account. Out of curiosity I’ve just looked up the ‘core values’ of both Coutts and my own bank. If Nige had done the same at some stage doubtless he would have left Coutts of his own accord, it’s all out there in the open. But he’s too busy playing the victim. Of course there are lots of small business banks which would have handled his account no questions, his ‘business’ is simply a shell to sell his time like those used by many self employed people. But he had to bank with the financier to the rich and aristocratic, his snobbishness and nouveau riche desperation to become accepted while simultaneously moaning about ‘elites’ and ‘the establishment’ has bitten him firmly on the arse. Old money doesn’t want to be tainted by his type.
Agreed with you right until the end but it hasn’t bitten him on the arse IMO. I doubt in his wildest dreams he’d have got the attention he has from this and the cash that will follow. He won’t give a **** where he banks when most of his wealth is in roubles under the bed.
I meant his desperation to be accepted as a part of the huntin’, shootin’ and fishin’ set has been kicked in the teeth. Agree his mate Aaron Banks could probably sort him a bank account if he really needs one.
It’s now being positioned as a great victory he’s led for the plebs who have lost bank accounts in the past. Bob might even get his Halifax account back.
Nigel Farage and people who think like him. See his quotes on Italians and Romanians. It’s not simply being anti EU.
Exactly…..the fella is a complete ****, without a doubt and definitely sees himself as part of the elite (although they clearly don’t see him as such). But I can’t say he’s “anti European”
