In the last 25 to 30 years there's been a sense of entitlement crept into football. If one of those clubs went under it will make my ****ing life.
Ritchie's got to be there purely for the coaching, you'd think. He's mates with Howe. This is my one and only concern; is Howe REALLY a CL manager? I mean he's more than earned the right, but is his belief in the likes of Ritchie, Gordon and Barnes healthy? As has been said, I get the Barnes is an upgrade on ASM, but it's a slight one and we're still one injury from Lascelles in defence, Murphy on RW and have Targett or Burn as the starting LB. I don't fully understand the Barnes purchase either. Surely Gordon, at £45m, was bought to be first choice LW? With Almiron likely starting on the right, why was the Barnes purchase so necessary? Not a time to panic, there's a long time left in the window, but I'll rest a bit easier with two defenders signed.
Lascelles probably one of the more saleable assets. If we got £7m for him, he's on £40k a week... That's £9m benefit. That frees up the ability to spend £45m over 5 years.
Newcastle know they've got a great team spirit and are going to protect that very powerful advantage over the squads that get ripped up and slapped together every time they sack a manager.
Barnes isn’t a slight upgrade on maxi. The stats price this. Yes maxi had the capability of getting the entire crowd going once upon a time but as these 28 months have gone on his magic diminished more and more. Loved the lad for what he has done, will keep an eye on him in the future and will look back fondly on his time here. players are a commodity though. They are there to earn clubs money and we need a truck load of it.
Definitely, seem to suggest Ritchie has done a lot of work helping to integrate the new lads and youngsters - can see him completing coaching qualifications this year and then a back room role Agree re defenders
He's got great potential but lacks end product and is a headless chicken at times. Don't see him ahead of Barnes isak or Almiron. I suppose the side will rotate alot so it'll be whoever earns the spot for the majority of starts.
Disagree. He’s not headless. He was clearly off the pace last season but this season he’ll be on fire
One thing is for certain, the signing of Barnes is the beginning of the end for Wilson as 1st choice. Isak isn't going to be lumped out on the LW often next year, unless we're decimated with injuries.
Financially, it makes sense, but Miggy is an important part of the squad, and performed brilliantly last season. Ypu could spend an awful lot of money to end up with a Miggy (attitude / work rate / talent). Admittedly, he'll maybe never be worth as much again, but how much of the first team do you chop? He'd have to feel incredibly hard done by if we leveraged him out.
Not too bad! "Newcastle United are on track to earn around £6million from their pre-season tournament at St James’ Park, Football Insider can reveal. The Magpies announced earlier this month (7 July) that they will host the inaugural ‘Sela Cup’ this summer. The pre-season tournament is set to include Newcastle, Villarreal, Nice and Fiorentina in a round-robin format."
One other revenue earner I keep forgetting about will be the Fan Zone when that's up. That can generate good revenue 365 days a year with smart management.
I remember when the takeover happened Isac Hayden laughing saying all the players there are fine as it’s not like football manager. Don’t think the lads kicked a ball since Mike left
