I'm only going to do one post on the henderson transfer.

We are all culpable. Henderson is just on a much larger scale.

Cheap clothes? Sweat shop.
Cheap electronics? Sweat shop
Cheap food? Poorly paid farmers

Everything we have, especially in the west is paid for by the Sweat from some poor ****ers brow.

The list is endless. What we get to do is is sit in offices and provide "services" while other people do the work.

Unless you shop from your local farmer, buy clothes hand made, don't drive, use electricity (unless produced from your own source) your buying from a government or system that's abhorrent.

You've got a choice as well, but it would make your lives harder.

There are a few of you "dissapointed or worse" with Hendo for taking the SA money. Do any of you have the same feeling about the club taking the money for player sales?

We had a discussion about this about a week ago, back then my point was, while I recognize there are obviously similarities, what makes it worse to be Hendo taking the money as opposed to LFC is Henderson will become a public face of Saudi Football and indirectly aggrandizing the house of Saud.

I read Dom king’s article this morning and the narrative is the CLUB accepted the offer so Henderson will now leave, as opposed to Hendo being the one to force the issue.

Hendo’s PR has been amazing over his career - it’s hard to think of a more average footballer who has been massively overhyped in the media as much as Henderson.

Everyone to their own tbh but I just don’t get all the Hendo hating. He’s been a good servant to the club and a multiple trophy winning Captain…..had he not been injured in his early years, I’m convinced we would have won a title under Rogers with SG as captain, he wasn’t the best player but was also highly underrated imo at his best - obviously that high energy has now waned and he is a shadow of the player he was and has taken a payout in his twilight years. That’s his right, I’m certainly not one to judge; if i could earn silly money tax free for 3 years, I’d do it, despite my views on Saudi. Then I’d retire and enjoy what was left of my life, doing whatever o wanted, wherever I wanted with my family.

I don't want to keep labouring this point, but he can do that already.
Neither do I want to give the impression that I think I'm some paragon of virtue - I'm nothing of the sort, but there are some things that are going too far.
And it's not "Hendo hating" - it's an expression of disappointment that a man who has made a display of standing up for human rights has been so easily bought. He hasn't betrayed me or the club, only himself.
Nothing to do with his achievements on the pitch for us, he's been an integral part of the success and I've always opposed Jimmy's daft assessment of him (Jimmy's entitled to his opinion of course).
Of all those who have sold out to the Saudis, Hendo is the last one I would have expected to do so. I don't think Gerrard is a particularly principled man, and I have no idea what the thoughts of Firmino and Fabinho are on the subject, but I'm surprised at Jordan.

Lavia for £35m is the latest isn’t it? If he’s the one coming in, it’s a bold move by Klopp….I still think that there’s a couple of surprises in the making. No way are we done with signings (yet!)
That's such a difficult question though. We don’t know how much he donates to charity. We don’t know how much he has in his bank account.

On our life styles yes. But is he going to retire and then live a 30k a year life style of one holiday a year and a takeaway once a month?

Does he want to set up a foundation and use some of this money to be able to help disadvantaged kids which he wouldn’t do on his current wage.

Does he want to be able to set up funds for his kids/family/nephews/nieces so they can go to uni and get on property ladder etc.
At £200k a week, that's over £10m per year.
Just on a years wages that's set up for life smart investment. Stick it in a savings account at 5% even and he's earning $500k per year.

Even with foundations, they stick a chunk in and use the interest to pay for good causes and it keeps itself going forever.

actually most of us have no options o nthe above.

most of us cannot afford to pay 500 quid for a cashmere sweater from the hills of italy or whatever. Ans we also don't go to primark and throw away clothes.

I don't know what electronics are cheap. I am not aware there's any option offered by say apple to buy a 1000 quid phone form a European or us site for 2000

cheap food, I wish we had an option thats genuine to stop hypermarkets driving food producers in to the ground

Yes there's endless lists of things that are traded and we sit here on the end of the capitalist consumer and are expected to be force fed like battery chicken and like it.

ordinary folk have very few choices to make to get by.

the important poin sis the order of magnitude of difference is what you pointed out with henderson.

My view is the difference between a 32 year old who has 160k per week for 2 years but is willing to throw his England career, his work for causes and his reputation all away for 700k a week for 3 years

we are talking about a man who would earn 16.5million before tax and bonuses here and continue to work for causes and a man selling out for 109million.

think about that.

yes he has a choice. he can never want for anything and be x,y or z kind of person or he can be a money grubbing no rep with 109million.

Its an absolutely massive amount of money to be put in front of anyone, especially a bang average old midfielder for a second tier Saudi club that realistically are never going to compete with their own front line PIF clubs.

Should he take it? IMO theres more than enough reasons for him to know full well that if the money is so attractive he then needs to accept the loss of rep.

Lets face it for 99% of the population. the reputation would absolutely go out the window.

But understanding that doesn't mean I don't get to blank him or call him a traitor cos he's ****ed us over. that's the beauty of standing back and having no power of any of this.

Hendo wasn't overated by the media for most of his career in fact they barely noticed him . They only started gushing as he was the captain , and to some extent the "face", of LFC as they won the CL ,PL and then got to every "final" possible in a season and even then a lot of the talk was a about leadership rather than his abilities .

wasn’t having a pop mate. I think it’s fair to call him a hypocrite on some issues, it shouldn’t take away from what he achieved for us imo. I think I’ll leave it there, it’s obviously a hot topic lol

Funny how the journos are now saying that the contract extension for Hendo was a mistake.

And how Edwards was overruled by Klopp … highlights how our successful model was broken by Klopp and his ego

I didn't for a moment think you were, I'm just presenting my point of view in response. There's no need to feel you can't express yours without giving offence, we're all entitled to say what we think. <ok>

Or maybe Klopp felt he was important and wanted him to stay?
It's a bit rich to accuse him of ego whilst claiming to know better. I think we all agree that the contract was too long, but maybe it was the only way to keep him at the club for the required time and was therefore worth it in Klopp's view.
No offence Jim, but I'd take his opinion over yours - or mine - any time.
Anyway, it's all worked out - his wages are off the club and we got a bit of beer money rather than him walking on a free.

The classic ‘Klopp knows better’ line. Of course he does but that doesn’t mean we can’t have opinions or question his decisions.

And did it work out? We struggled massively in 2 out of the last 3 seasons.

The point I was making is that the processes that made us successful were tossed away because Klopp and ljinders had more influence - which clearly backfired. It now looks like we’re returning to said processes so time will tell if lessons have been learnt

It might be a cliché but it's still true. Of course you can question his decisions, but equally I can question your questioning. :)
It's what we're on here for isn't it?
I think you're making some assumptions on what goes on behind the scenes that might not necessarily be the case.
As for your middle paragraph, that's only true if you think Hendo was the sole reason for the struggle, and I don't think that's a reasonable view.
Tbh, although I know you've never liked him, I thought your constant disparagement had become a sort of self-parody over the last year or so.

I’m not making assumptions my friend. The evidence is there …

Captaincy and leadership will be an issue to be sorted pronto.

we’ve had a very verbal captain and vice captain over the last few years. Everyone is different and I have no clue as to what Klopp expects but I do think that VvD is quite laid back so I would potentially opt for Robbo.

Always been VvD when no Hendo or Milner so think that'd be a slap in the face. Would expect him to be given it with Robbo Vice personally
