The Official had us starting in a 4 2 3 1. Smith, Kelman, Willock the 3 from right to left, Dykes alone up front. 35 degrees as well.
Don’t get too over-excited Hammy … it appears it bounced off him into the goal. Still, you have to be in the right place at the right time
A good mate of mine (Boro fan/scout) wasn't a big fan of Wing. Describes him as a bang average player who probably found his level at Wycombe. Should fit in with us amongst our bang average players then.
Im slowly getting there mate. It is what it is. Nothing that any of us can change. Just another season of nothingness (if such a word). I don't have an issue with either of the 2 signings. We only have Archer who looks pretty poor and surely Wing is as good as or better than Dozzell or Albert as examples.
GA is focussing/relying on building team spirit but I reckon we’ll be doing most (if any) of our business late on. Interesting to see how dropping in players so late will work with the existing players. Maybe a quick Haka will accelerate their bedding-in process.
Apologies if this has been asked before but: 1. Why are we playing League 2 Austrian teams? Surely we ought to be pitching ourselves against L1 opposition. I know a win is a win but it feels hollow when it's against such poor opposition. 2. Lewis Wing came to us from Wycombe on a free. I suppose that means that Wycombe didn't rate him sufficiently to offer him a long term deal. Are we expected to get excited by a Wycombe reject?
In our Warnock promotion winning year we played non-league sides in Cornwall pre-season. In Warbs' last year we were beating Manchester United in pre-season. I wouldn't read too much into pre-season games.
I know they are played at a snails pace, and really just there to get players fitness back to scratch...but surely Lofty has a point here. Even in terms of fitness, what is the point of playing opposition who are way below our hoped for level? If it is more about team spirit and bonding by all going away together, I get it...but surely these preseason games do little to actually prepare the squad for the level of football in the Championship.
