I really don't get the point of Dying Fetus, they are just another band with the same sound doing the same thrash/death/punk/outrage metal, different time sequences, flashy playing, diddly guitar bits and unintelligable lyrics shouted or something. Is it music, probably, does it have merit, not to my ears as it is just derivative, I always thought that Venom did it best and everyone has just been a copy since. I always thought that when you hear a band they have a particular sound, you may not know the song but you can hear the band, I think of The Who, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Slade, Led Zep, Genesis, The Stranglers, Iron Maiden, The Clash, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, U2, REM, Radiohead, Oasis, The Smiths and on and on, they may have been part of a genre but they had their own distinct sound and thats what made them great and why the music lives on.

Yes they are a serious band, and you can't judge a band all on their name. They sing about the flawed justice system, war, sometimes less serious stuff like gore n blood. They're a good band, very technically gifted.

<ok>

And Chappaz, i love how you can judge someone over a forum, very ignorant. I can make pictures in my head of most of the people on here, but i won't actually judge people on here from when they type in caps locks and use swear words, those i admit i over use a bit, but it shouldn't lead to people making judgements about me personally, before they've even met me.

Aye like I said mate, I did a bit of musical Dennis Wise'n and youtube'd them...Some of song titles are a bit cliched/OTT, no doubting they're very technically gifted, plenty of finger tapping and as I said, the drummer is very quick...But there's quite a few 'cock rock' style modern bands are very 'tongue in cheek' about their band name/songs etc. but still serious about the music they actually make, was wondering if they were just another example?

It's definitely not my style of music like, but I can appreciate they're talented.

A band doesn't have to be necessarily influencial to be good, and the bands that influenced others, aren't necessarily the best. I think the Beatles are over rated and most of their songs are really mundane, yet i respect them for their influence on the genre of rock music.

Dying Fetus' lyrics aren't really understandable at first, but the real fans will read their lyrics, and after a few listens you'll almost be singing along. Dying fetus don't sing really, but they have a style of vocals that works well with their music. I thought it was **** about 2 years ago, then i became more and more customed to it. An howay, you can't just desribe their playing as "didly guitar bits". You've only listened to one of their songs, i'm guessing, and different songs reach out to different people. I mainly like their songs that sing about the justice system and law. However, most of the time i'm basically just listening to their music casually, and the guitars are my favourite part to it. In most death metal music, the vocals really just enhance the feeling to me, i don't really need to understand them.

I agree their are alot of metalheads that think that, just because the style of music they like takes the most technical skill, its obviously the best style of music, and the band is the "most talented band evar"!!! I'm not like that though. Jimi Hendrix, in my opinion, is one of the best guitarists ever, but he wasn't as technically gifted as alot of others.

It's about creativity and feeling, and i agree most technical death metal bands don't really make songs containing those aspects. However, most of Dying Fetus' songs are made with meaning, but what i like about them is that you can head bang to their music, and mosh to it, aswell as respect the meaning behind it.

Tash, Dying Fetus sound like Suicide Silence, Whitechapel, Autumn's End, A bit like As Blood Runs Black, Burning the Masses etc etc. Nothing knew or special if i'm honest, but if that's what you like then fair enough.

Well i disagree, Suicide Silence, Whitechapel and all the bands you mentioned are deathcore bands, and they started after Dying Fetus formed in 1991. So if you're going to make a comparison, you have to say those bands sound like Dying Fetus, not that they sound like them, because Dying Fetus were performing their style of music before those bands even got together. It's like saying Metallica sounds like Slipknot, it's not right.

Dying Fetus, from what i've heard from those bands, sound very little like them, and are alot more talented and creative with their music.

I don't generally listen to Metal music so I wouldn't know all the different genres, it just doesn't appeal to me. But to my ears they all sound the same with the amount of open strings being played and the stupid amount of unnecessary arpeggios. I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying that is what it sounds like to me.

Sorry Tash but if you don't think it matters about the lyrics being understood then why go on about the band's message, they may as well just be singing La La La and enter eurovision, for most bands they had something to say either musically or lyrically, as a band within this genre I would point to Lordi, technically good with more of a riff and melody appreciation and you can actually understand the lyrics sang in English even though thay are from Scandinavia. As for influence, if music doesn't influence then nobody is listening because that is what music does, good or bad.

RIP, fair point. I'm guessing you probably don't like skate punk/hardcore (most metal heads I know don't) but a band who's lyrics are very politically orientated are A Wilhelm Scream. Plus they have some of the best song titles going: 'Me Vs Morrissey in the Pretentious Contest (The ladder match)' I lol'd...Their drummer is probably one of my favourite 'unknown' drummers going, n they always have a nice sounding riff/solo in their songs (I'm no guitarist so can't comment on it's technicalities, but sounds nice so I like it) ... comes at about 1:40 in the song below.

I wouldn't say all metal sounds the same. If you compare the 3 biggest metal bands - Sabbath, Metallica, Maiden - they sound nothing alike. Not sure on the newer metal bands kicking about, most of them are influenced by the above so it seems unlikely they would all sound the same.

I said i read the lyrics to understand the meaning. I can't understand them first time listening to them, but as time goes on and i listen to it often, i can actually sing along to it, as the lyrics become more and more audible.

And what i meant about influence, i'm not sayiny Dying Fetus won't influece a persons views or feelings, but i can't see them influencing a generation of music or many bands. Dying Fetus have influenced me in a certain way, and have influenced me musically as i like to play their style of music, but i wouldn't want to form a band and play music just because of DF. Metallica are the band that got me into metal, and also many other into it, and they influenced thousands of bands.

You get what i'm saying?
