Yeah for me fab was never in this discussion Back at the start I was thinking that one of Thiago and Hendo would have to go and I thought Hendo offered more I really dislike the fact I called our players poor cause that’s not how I think - was just trying to highlight it wasnt just Hendo i take on board the point about being ruthless but there is a fine line between ruthless and folly (I know Jimmy pointed that out btw replying sort of to two posts lol ) to remove all our experience at once just smacks of stupidity to me (not you Jimmy the club were they to do that) the Hendo thing I just don’t understand when he has been quality for us I think all of this playing out is very interesting though. As I said right at start would rather keep Hendo if we can but if he goes so be it
Just a point Donga made - If Henderson does go for the blood money, it's likely he won't get anywhere near the hall of fame, like Owen didn't for his particular sin of going to utd.
It’s not really removing all the experience though? Ali Taa Konate Vvd Robbo szobo other? Mac allister salah gakpo diaz 4 of the back 5 are vastly experienced at the club and have numerous medals plus Salah. Szobo is captain of his nation and won league in Austria and played cl football. Mac won wc with Argentina. Not sure how much gakpo and diaz have won but not inexperienced. Add in Gomez Matip thiago. Team has plenty of experience left in it.
Completely different. Owen ****ed over the club leaving for pennies to madrid in his prime (although injuries suggest his prime was actually around 20-23) then went to United for an easy win. He won a couple of trophies with us. Hendo has won and captained the club to every trophy possible and is leaving at the end of his career to a team with no rivalry whats so every.
We are reaping what we've sown. Thiago is 32/33 henderson 33/34 Even fab is rocking up to his 30th birthday We've let the squad age, without enough new blood coming in. The only way forward is a massive overhall. We can either bite the bullet, take the money while it's offered and throw the players in and hope they swim, or do it piece meal and in 2 seasons time have a 36,35 and 31 year old around the squad. Neither is ideal, but tge short sightedness of the owners and/or klopp has led to this predicament. Big virg also needs someone to come in, matip as well thinking about it.
Virgil will need replacing next season, two at most. His experience and leadership are invaluable (especially with Milly gone, and Hendo - and possibly Fab- going too). He can still hit a sublime 60-metre pass, He's still fine in the air, but come on - his straight-line speed is going and his lack of agility makes him look like a toppling tree trunk at times. That's no disgrace after the injury he got, and the fact that 6' 5" speed-merchant defenders will lose their pace in their 30s - look at Rio Ferdinand. But if we keep insisting on playing a high line in defence we're going to have to admit that Virgil no longer has the speed or maneuverability to cut it anymore. Hope I'm proved wrong, but he's gotten slower each season even before the Prickford assault - look at the 7-2 at Villa before that unpunished, despicable, cowardly attack and you could see he was blowing and trundling then.
Hendo going for a golden pension plan with the best wishes of the club in the twilight of his career is a lot different from Owen (whom I still think of as a Liverpool legend for everything he did and the way he conducted himself off the pitch compared to some of the Spice Boy generation), who basically used the same Bosman tactic as McManaman to get a deal to go to Madrid at a third of his true price. That he expected Rafa to pay that price to buy him back a year later after we'd won the CL shows how deluded he was. That said, he obviously still loves the club and holds many scoring records for us, but he was never the same player after he started doing his hammys, and certainly not after he twatted his cruciate on England duty, so he did us a massive favour in a way.
You've helped me make my point. Hall of Famers get in there because of what they do at the club. Anywhere you look it will say that Owen was one of Liverpool's greatest ever players, massive in the treble winning season, Balon d'Or and World footballer of the year winner in the same year etc but he left under a cloud and didn't get voted into the hall. if Henderson does leave for Saudi, he could well end up the same. How many Balon d'Or winners do you reckon didn't make it into their club's hall of fame?
I would reject both offers out of hand. these folk who want to sportswash will have to pay through the nose. very disappointed in both players but especially Mr rainbow laces.
Tbh didn’t even know liverpool had a hall of fame? Means nothing to anyone really. Still don’t see henderson leaving at the end of his career to owen leaving in the prime for Tiny money.
It is horrible... The even move amateur teams. Last city I lived in we had a really good amateur Ice Hockey tean, so bastards up and moved to a bigger city to make more money leaving us hockeyless. And that's was for an amateur team.
imo if you use the bloody money to pay off fsg and tell them to go get ****ed then you can buy who you like
It wasn't tiny money. He had one year left on his contract and we got £11m plus a player. That wasn't too bad at the time. Only felt tiny because had he had five years left, we'd have maybe got closer to £40m
It depends on each individual's point of view/principles. You can't get any lower than taking the blood money. It hasn't happened yet with Henderson and might not but my position on it remains the same whoever the player is. In Henderson's case he stood up and spoke out about gay rights when he didn't have to, he chose to, so in his case it will also make him a hypocrite - if it happens.
I massively respect Hendo for some of the stuff he's done whilst he's been at the club but that will all go out the window of he goes Saudi. I'm sure he'll have plenty of restless nights knowing he lost my respect mind...
