Whatever he was on at Nice I doubt we could match it. Even in a loan situation we'd need a discounted wage. So til January, they'd be out of pocket subsidising his loan.
Say there's a 20k funding gap for 25 weeks, thats £500k.
We'd need to stump up a couple million to make it worth while.
Is there a game of chicken going on?
Also, if his contract ran out at the end of June, surely they'd have needed to to exercise the option to provide continuity of employment. They couldn't hold off for a month without him being paid. So either they've exercised the option and he's theirs, or they haven't and he's a free agent.
Unless there's something even more convoluted in the option clause.
Or Ramsey is after a better offer. So why then would Nice play along?
