Is the Barnsley game at 3.30am over in the UK? What an odd time to schedule a game. And how much are the tickets to actually attend the game in flesh as opposed to watching on a stream?
I get the 3.30 am bit. I doubt I would have got up at that time to watch it had it been me. But I just don't get the £5 / 'close to 10 AUD' bit; unless anyone really is struggling, then yes, it's tight, even out of order as a City fan.
You don't get why thinking charging 5 quid for a pre-season friendly is a bit much when at this time of year surely the intent is getting as many eyes on the team and building hype rather than making money out of the fans? Why not charge 2 quid for away travel? You'd make far more than you'd get out of people choosing to pay for a pre-season game, and the line 'it's only 2 quid' could get trotted out there. You're not going to get people not going to away games just because it's 2 quid, but I daresay plenty of people wouldn't bother watching a pre-season game because they have to pay.
Nope, I don't get why. My point isn't so much about should they or should they not charge for streaming a friendly. It's about supporting the club for such a small amount, rather than being unwilling to, or looking for ways to avoid paying money to, the club. It was only a fiver. Regarding the free v's £2 travel (which is a different topic). Acun put on free away travel to help get fans to games in person. Helped the team and helped fans get / rediscover the bug. Also great positive publicity. Sensible, clever move. One of his big targets is to build / rebuild the attending fan base. He had a LOT of work to do to try to repair the massive damage the Allams did. Reduced prices, free travel, etc worked pretty well toward the end of the season, and hopefully it continues to work this season. Let's move on.
Tickets £10 then concessions. If the stream is the same price as last night it will be a fiver, a pint of beer costs more than a fiver in some pubs around these parts now. I also think the game has been scheduled to suit the English audience, which at a guess would be mainly, fans of Hull City and Barnsley.
Free away travel costs the club over £200k last season, and in some cases it was abused. I doubt very much if it will be continued this season. Seriously, why should it? If money is as tight as you are claiming then attending a football match home or away would be out of the question anyhow. The club is not a charity, it is a business with wages and costs to pay like any other business. Why don't Tesco/Asda/Morrisons give away free joints of beef 'to encourage people to shop with them'?? Why don't they charge you £2 for your weekly shopping? It would be madness. I don't think much money is being made charging fans £5 to watch a live game beamed across from Turkey. You should have been around when we didn't even get radio commentary of City away games, didn't stop us turning up the following week and paying full pops.
We're arguing the same thing buddy, I'm also saying they should charge for away travel. If there isn't much money being made charging fans for a pre-season friendly stream perhaps think through why I'm suggesting they don't bother. What are you on about? The equivalent would be Tesco charging you to walk into their store. Why would they do that? They want to encourage people to come in and look at their products. You really trot out some utter ****.
So what you're saying is he put on free travel to encourage as many people as possible to go to games, to get more people watching games, who might have seen even a small fee as a barrier to doing so. Interesting concept.. I was happy to move on, someone brought it up randomly and unprompted in this thread to have a pop either at me or at people in general who thought 5 quid was a lot for a pre-season game.
"There was a player we were very upset about because we couldn't convince him. We spent 2 days together in Turkey. Recently, the boy called me. I can't forget that energy, he said, I want to come to Hull City. I'm waiting for that boy to come. He is one of England's most important talents. It's coming, it's coming..."
You got out of the wrong side of the bed again? Our mid week games usually kick off at 7.45 pm UK time, because that's where the games are played, as you well know. Are you seriously saying the club should reschedule them for someone in Australia to stream at a suitable time to them, and someone who will not get his hand in his pocket and pay £5 for the privledge? Your nothing but a **** stirrer.
I really don't get why this sparks you up so much, not everyone can be or wants to be a super fan. From those like my mam who at the end only listened on humberside (when it was on) and checked the results to those who attend every game home and away, you're all following the team. We're not all the same, some can blow a grand or two to go see the friendlies in Turkey and not even think about the cost, others are sitting at home hoping we do well whilst worrying about how to pay the bill's sitting on on the mantlepiece. It's just the way life is, accept it.
FWIW. Money isn't tight. FFP Headroom is. 200k on away travel wont be taken into account for FFP I dont think
Charging for away travel would not effect you would it, and when they do put on free travel it is to help get support drummed up for the players.
Again, this is my point mate. Away travel is free, tickets are kept cheap, because this ownership generally recognises that getting more support and eyeballs is more important than a small increase in revenue they may get, and they are instead trying to get revenue from sponsors. I would have thought pre-season games are games you would show for free to drum up support and excitement for the team and encourage people to pay for season passes after experiencing a preview for free on games they wouldn't otherwise pay to watch. They showed last season's game against Fener for free for instance. Anyway it's done and people have their opinions.
Shelbourne Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Harry Wood from Hull City on loan for the remainder of the 2023 season, subject to international clearance. A central midfielder, the 20-year-old was born in Leeds and began his football career at Manchester United’s academy. Wood joined Hull’s academy as an Under-16, making his senior debut in their final game of the 2020/21 season against Charlton Athletic, lifting the League One title. He made his home debut for the club in the EFL Cup against Wigan in August 2021 before then joining League Two side Scunthorpe United on loan. Wood made 13 appearances and registered four assists, before returning to the Tigers in January 2022. Wood was then a mainstay in the Hull Under-21s last season, with notable performances being a hat-trick against Charlton and netting in the national Professional Development League semi-final against Millwall. As well as making his EFL Championship debut in Hull City’s final game of the season against Luton Town.
