That's Gérard finished with me. Brilliant player, but lost any credibility he had now. They are playing their part in destroying the beautiful game. All scabs. Same with the liv golfers. And of course the Mags. Ftm

It would certainly underline the saying ' money talks'.
These football mercenaries are giving up their careers for the lure of big money.
I get their careers are short but surely they earn enough without selling their souls to these Arab clubs.

For Hendo it's a bit different, he's done the lot and won it all. His career is definitely in the twilight years so ordinarily I wouldn't blame him one bit for taking the money. The only problem is the fact it's Saudi money which means there is a very real morality issue. I still wouldn't "blame" him per se, but I'd lose a good amount of respect, as Smug says.

To be fair he shouldn't need the money, if he does its out of greed. The normal footballer won't earn as much as he has. He must be a multi millionaire so even at 33yrs , or whatever his age, he will never be short unless he's badly advised.

It seems other clubs are profiting more from our model than we are.

I know this is the Sunderland transfer thread, but Gerrard getting in on it all now? Shame, he's given up already on his manager career?

Everton (Simms), Union Berlin (Dajaku), PSG (Michut), and potentially Arsenal and whoever buys Ballard. TBD: Leeds (Gelhardt and Huggins)

We haven't sold any of the class prospects we own (yet).

I'm pleased we haven't, as they're our greatest chance of going up, but if we sold Clarke, Patto, Dan Neil, Ross Stewart and Trai Hume you're probably looking at close to £40-£50m of fees.

The thing about the model is time. These young lads need time and patience to develop.

Not quite sure what your point is

Simms didn't fulfill his potential here, Everton recalled him early. In any case it's a loan, that's the point of them. Same for mitchut (at least we had negotiated a buy clause, in case we/he wanted to)

Dajaku. Not sure how union Berlin benefited? It was, on paper, good move for all involved. It didn't work out, that happens sometimes and doesn't reflect on our model imo.

Ballard ? If we sell him, I'm sure it will only be for a high fee, so we also get money to reinvest.

I've often said on here I'm not a great fan of the loan system, one of the reasons for which is the players have to be replaced when they return to their parent clubs, which can be difficult if the loanee has been a key part of the team. However, our recruitment people will have known what they would need to do to cover the position and I have no doubt they've been on it throughout....hence the signing of Bellingham.
We do seem to be trying to develop our own players to become less reliant on loans, which, imo,is a good thing.

Not sure what your point is here mate?

The only team that will benefit from our new model/vision is us. Clubs who send players to us on loan will benefit a little bit if we improve them as players but thats not really got anything to do with the model, that's more down to good coaching

Agree in the sense we're trying to find quality loans to supplement our own quality young players. I'm a fan of loans though, it allowed us to get Amad Diallo here which wouldn't have happened any other way. I don't think we'll see any movement on loans until later into August but lets be fair after the experience Amad had whilst here we're going to be right at the front of the queue for the quality PL loans.

I also think we'll see a number of our younger kids get loans down the pyramid this season too, all useful development experience for them playing mens senior football as opposed to endless U23/U21 crap.

The loan market is key to championship clubs imo but i would hate us signing lots of loan players every season. For me the loan market should be used to bring in a special special player that we simply couldnt afford, amad for example. For me 1 or 2 loan signings max is what we shouls have and the rest are permanent

Think when stoke beat us they had 5 loan signings starting, id hate that

Agree with most of that....I'm not going to bang on and bore everyone anymore about a proper reserve league like we used to have when I first started going to Roker, which, imo, would provide the match experience for these younger players.
