Apologies, not England related but that's the end of the T20 blast for Durham. Got beat by Birmingham Bears today. We got through to 3 home games, £16.50 a ticket for adults and a fiver for the bairn. Great value imo. Will look to get a season ticket for it next year, we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Just need to get back into the series at Headingley and change momentum from there. I think England will be pretty fired up for that one. Let’s get it to 2- 1 and take it from there
I'd like to think that the next 3 days are spent explaining that the batsmen don't need to attack every ball and there has to be balance and playing to the situation? If that means being defensive for a few overs so be it
Very poor from Bairstow imo, he walked out of his crease before checking where the ball had gone only seconds after it had passed him, I think the commentator said he had done it before. I think Anderson and Bairstow could be rested in the next test without weakening the side too much. And what a find Tongue looks, great debut.
It was the end of the over. The Square Leg umpire was on the move, he wasn't trying to steal a single or gain any sort of advantage. It's pathetic from the Australians to steal a wicket like that. Genuinely embarrassing for them
Don't expect many changes at Headingley, Moeen might come in if it'll spin and Wood has to come in if fit Wood for Anderson Moeen for Robinson depending on conditions.
He's right. Carey was sly and underhand. He'll always be known as a cheat now. He plays for the right team.
Hundreds, literally hundreds of batsmen have done this in the past. The batsman gains no advantage, as with a Mankad. It was devious, sly and completely against the spirit of the game. Carey, ( and Cummins, probably Smith too if they were involved) will always be known as a cheat for doing it . Always.
If Smith and his other cronies can live with the whole sandpaper thing I’m sure Carey will live with what he did. Best way to deal with it is to win the series 3 - 2 and get in their faces then. The Aussies are never going to change. Just in their DNA as a team
and of course, like any bully when the abuse is directed back tiwards them, they are all crying about it.
They can't help it. Going way back they have stretched the rules more than any other team. Even bowling underarm for God's sake, and that was forty years ago. We'll never know what they've been doing and not caught at though, that's the thing. They are like a sprinter who has a drug record. The achievement is always tainted.
I can almost understand Mankad because the non-striker is trying to gain an advantage by backing up out of his crease in the attempt to potentially steal a single. In this instance, Bairstow was simply walking to chat to his mate between overs. For Carey to do it, Cummins to uphold the appeal and Cameron ****ing Green celebrate "taking a wicket" was ****ing embarrassing from the supposed World Champions.
Agreed. Some batsmen almost deserve a Mankad, stealing yards sometimes. But this was desperate stuff from a team that has cheated more than once before under pressure.
This supposed "new Australia" that was born out of the sandpaper scandal is utter bullshit. They claim catches that they have dropped, they tamper with the pitch, they steal wickets and they cry when teams sledge them. I think I hate the Australians more than I hate what used to be the Mags
To me the fact that both Smith and Warner were welcomed back into the team as soon as possible, with Smith vice Captain now, after the ball tampering allegations shows that the Aussies are hypocrites when it comes to cheating. All of it is brushed under the carpet because Australia need them. As a kid, the Aussies played hard, but fair. There might have been a bit of sledging and limited gamesmanship, but over the last 25 years or so the boundaries of what was acceptable got pushed and blurred, with the arrogance that if you complained about it it was because you couldn't handle it. There's already a thin line between what's gamesmanship and cheating and recently the the Aussies have show much more willingness to cross it. It's meant that all the respect I had for people like Dean Jones, Denis Lillie, Steve Waugh, Mark Taylor and David Boon has gradually disappeared for this lot. Edit. I'd actually say that this kind of stuff started with Alan Border. His DNA is in the Aussie mindset now, too many seem to be clones of his attitude, but so long as they win it doesn't matter.
The underarm one was one of the Chappel brothers if I can remember ok? Nothing like bring a bit of class to the table….
In its current climate todays event and Manked are seen as unsporting. So i agree its poor form by the Aussies. But in future i think this and Manked should be seen as an acceptable way to get someone out. Especially Manked. Where a batsmans trying to get a headstart for a quick single. Ive never understood why there isnt a rule to stop batsmen doing it as a batsman being a quarter of the way down the pitch before the ball has left the bowlers hand is rather unsporting isnt it? If a bowler warns a batsman that hes got his eye on him and threatens him with a Manked then i think doing it is fair game. And today i think the wicket keeper should have warned Bairstow. With a 'now mind i could have had you out twice already, do it again and ill have you!'
