Haven't seen it mentioned, but former academy player Max Sheaf has just signed for Ross County. He scored 6 goals and registered 18 assists last season for...oh. Redditch (who play in the Southern League). Well still, good luck to him. Not a huge step up in standards.
but his kids don’t need to find new schools, the wife doesn’t need to find new friends…it all matters
Something that goes overlooked also is the fact he's added 6 goal contributions this season also. He'd scored 1 senior (L2) goal with no assists before this season and was entering his last year contract - wise so his value will have risen significantly this season although some mistakenly feel its dropped simply because he was good enough to mostly keep Elder out at left back and Rosey preferred Macca at CH than Elder at LB.
And of course Newcastle is a bit better connected than Hull, let alone it's suburbs. 20 minute drive from Darras Hall to a decent airport, hour and a half from Edinburgh etc...
Ben Gibson cost Norwich circa £8m a few years ago. He’s a donkey. Greaves should not be undervalued at anything less than £10m.
It's crazy how far players end up dropping sometimes, after his Cheltenham loan with Greaves I thought he'd have a real go at breaking into our first team in L1
Elder was the best LB, Greaves was a decent backup when Elder was injured, but for whatever reason, we allowed Elder to leave for nothing to ****ing Derby!
C'mon, Elder wasn't the best LB. Greaves played the inverted LB really well when Christie was available on the other side who played much higher up. It didn't work out as well once Cyrus got injured and Coyle came in. I've never understood it but the amount of flack Greaves has got since he came into the side has always baffled me, especially compared to the free pass KLP got for the most part. As with any young player, there are areas of his game to improve on, but he has improved a hell of a lot year on year and he was a central part of our outstanding defensive record under LR.
I didn't mean central on the field but more having a huge impact in the same way Darlow, Christie and even Coyle did too
Neither did I. Those two and particularly McLaughlin coming in for Figueiredo was a huge part of our improved performance.
I think LR was the biggest reason why we stopped leaking goals. He's very clear and he brings a real calmness to the job. Even before Macca came in after the winter break, we'd improved a fair amount defensively
I never really thought Greaves was that good, in L1, his constant grabbing at corners, his grabbing & somehow not giving away a penalty in both divisions. I also thought KLP was overrated, however when stupid money’s mentioned? I think we should be getting our share. I think his lack of playing at Brentford sums up how much overrated he was. However, he might be like Grealish at Man City, fit in the first season, then in the second get in the team.
I think it was as much the midfield was tightened up that helped the defence out We were wide open down the middle prior to that
So Greaves isn't that good because he grabs at corners? Something he does a lot less of now. What about the rest of his game? For a 22-year-old centre-half, he's very very good and he's certainly deserved an England u21 call up
The grabbing at corners thing has never really been a coherent criticism. It's what good players do. Getting away with it is part of the skill. Different part of the pitch entirely but Eaves was the worst player I've seen for getting away with contact on opposition players without a foul. Abel Hernandez was another one. Most defenders are good at it and Greaves is no exception. Apparently someone asked him at an OSC Q&A about it and he basically said no I'm not planning to stop it, it's part of my job.
That part is wrong. He was injured for the one game he missed, after he got a blow to the back at Sheff Utd. We'd never have left him out of the squad voluntarily.
Did Greaves ever give away a penalty for grabbing? I can faintly remember one but I'm probably making it up
