The Athletic reporting that the plan for Diallo is to do pre-season at United and then go on loan to a Premier League club.

They're also saying Ethan Laird (RB) is available for transfer and will likely go to championship. I'd be all over this despite us having Hume - who I think is versatile enough to play at CB personally.

Hume, Huggins, Gooch, O’Nien are either natural right backs or very capable.

Unless someone leaves I really can’t see us using a loan in that position.

I guess the one caveat to this is that this is Benfica fans, rather than Benfica B fans specifically. If that makes sense. So they have a much higher hurdle of expectation. If he was the sort of player Benfica themselves were sad to lose, there's no way we'd be getting him. A bit like Michut with PSG really.
Benfica also have a lot of talented forwards that are ahead of semedo currently so that might be a reason why they arent as high on him

Decent shout Laird apparently very steady.
I’d agree with @Smug in Boots that in the absence of a specialist Evans upgrade, Hume has the game to play that position for us at least short term.

Laird has the potential to be better than all of them, has lost his way last couple of seasons but he is a talented lad. Id happily sign him and have him as humes back up, as he will still grt plenty of game time over the season

Laird would be great at right wing back as well. If we were to use a 3-5-2 formation - Laird could play that right sided role quite well, with Hume at RCB doing his John Stones impression.

Anyway I think Laird is a long shot because he's very reputable and that doesn't scream value to me.

Benfica did offer him a new contract and he's apparently turned them and Brighton down

The Semedo one is a really weird one. Absolutely nobody in the UK is "properly" reporting on it. The Portuguese press did, and then the Echo have reported THAT the Portuguese press are reporting it. And Michael Walker is saying its reported to be happening. But hasn't written a story about it himself, which is bizarre.

It makes me feel like we are so watertight on transfers now that journalists are genuinely having to guess. Because nobody seems to be willing to directly state it as their own story.

Was similar when Jewi was signing if I remember right just that one Costa Rican journalist reporting it
