Philips is a completely different type of play to those 2. He sighed Phillips as back up to Rodri

Would end up sucking the financial life out of the club like Rodwell did

My concern with the likes of Barkley or Dele Alli would be that if they can't motivate themselves to play for Spurs and Chelsea then I can't see them showing the correct level of commitment in the Championship for us.

Huddersfield fans aimed a lot of that crap at Pritchard I know, he just needed somewhere to be loved which he found here. Entirely different having played CL football to coming from Huddersfield Town though.

He is, but don’t forget Pep made Gundogan a 10, then deep lying, then a 10 again.

Pep, what he has is that any player absolutely will believe and act on his instruction.

Could probably make Haaland a great LB.

Great comments about Pritchard, the Huddersfield fans really dislike him.

    Yeah I’d agree.

Also don’t think it’s fair to compare Barkley to Alli or Rodwell. Kids always wanted to play but he was just a bit overrated from the start.

Should have had a very good career. Look at Willock up road, he looked like was drifting he moved to right club, they stuck with him as he struggled and now a solid (if unspectacular) player.

Barkley should never have gone Chelsea. 2 more year Everton and he’d have done a lot more.

I can understand why these players do make the jump to clubs like City tho. Look at John Stones. Went relatively early, took a couple of years to find his feet and is now being lauded as a great. Same could still happen to Phillips

Yeah absolutely. It does seem though in the English lads, if they do move clubs young to a big club it’s never from a PL start, there’s a real pattern.

Stones came from Barnsley to Everton is a prime example, are they more grounded that way? Just been reading Stones even now saying ‘I never thought I’d make it pro’. He’s one of the top 5 CB in world now.

Can’t think of many who have moved within PL who set world on fire. Obviously there’s your Rooney etc but general rule, if you comb England squad.

Walker -Sheff United - Spurs - City
Stones - Barnsley -Everton - City
    Maguire - Hull - Leicester - United

Seems they either start and stay at a top club or start from lower, not many ‘in between’

Mentality thing I stopped at lower league maybe, and nurturing and understanding from one club at other end.

This is where we are in a great position, how many players have seen the big lights, gone to the wrong club and just faded away. We're showing that young talented players are welcome here, will get their chance in a great atmosphere and playing an excellent style of football.

If a few of them want to prove themselves and use us as a stepping stone to bigger things then it's likely we won't stand in the way either as long as the offer is good enough.

    Absolutely mate.

We have Roberts as a shining example of this and Clarke slightly less so.

If Roberts does 2 more seasons at Fulham does it save him an effectively 4 year pause on his career? Probably.

Would Clarke have been better staying Leeds having that emotion season and going PL with them? Without doubt.

Im sure in particular the foreign lads will be in a race to get to PL, they all get there but timing it right is a lot. Anyone wants to tell me Roberts shouldn’t be playing PL then I don’t wanna talk football with them cos they know ****. We talk about food or dogs ha.

Two players that believed their own hype. Then when the moves to Real Madrid didn't happen, they vanished up their own arses. Jude Bellingham is the prime example, go away, learn your trade and good things will happen.

Disagree about Phillips I think he was signed as back up and that’s it. Said at the time there’s not a chance he’s getting into their Xl ahead of Rodri.

Phillips and Rice have never really “dominated games” for England other than against poor opposition. Playing the 2 of them together is our Achilles heel. Remember the euros final against Italy? They got absolutely dismantled.

You don’t need Phillips on the pitch whilst Rice is there, you’d never see City line up with Rodri and Phillips in the same team.

Southgate hasn’t got the bollocks to play 2 creative midfielders with rice and continually leaves our better players out, with a better manager that squad would’ve won something. All this nonsense about creating a good bond within the team is great but being mates with players from rival clubs doesn’t win trophies.
